To be honest, if you feel uncomfortable around people purely because they are a different colour you, i'd say thats an issue.

Race is an artificial construct like religion nation and gender. it should not matter to anyone. Hate is a learned and enforced behaviour, it can be unlearned. Its a default setting for humanity "this persons different lets hate it!" We should learn that we are all the same.

Saying lets be proud of our race is stupid redundant and dating back to the middle ages. Were living in the information age were supposed to be sharing more information you can find out about any culture just by asking anyone on this large space we call cyber. Were a truly international community on line lets think about it.

That said I am prejudiced against idiots! Idiocy is an international language! Let us never forget that we should never judge people based on the lowest common denominator!

But wait, allow me to explain myself.

I am totally on board with the principle that all human beings, regardless of race, are capable of thinking and feeling and intelligence, and are deserving of equal rights. I'm half-Chinese with white skin and I always saw how I was treated differently from my mother and my sister, who both have darker skin than I do. I grew up in Toronto (I'm still there) with Asian people, white people, South-Asian people, black people and saw that their race had nothing to do with what kind of person they were. My beliefs are not racist. In theory.

None of this has prevented me from an unfounded distrust of black people. I have friends who are black, but I notice that I'm not nearly as friendly to them as I am to friends of other races who are just as friendly to me as my black friends. I feel myself forcing me to be open and friendly when, say, I end up in a casual conversation with a black guy at the corner store. I feel myself get uptight when a black person sits next to me on the bus. None of this is fair, but it's what I feel, not what I ought to.

I don't buy it, when people say "I am NOT racist at all, I think racism is stupid, we're all equal." Of course they believe that; any decent person believes in equality. But believing something and acting it are different things. It's hard to examine our feelings at every moment, but even if you believe (and I hope you'll pardon my colloquial use of "you" if you're already aware of all this) even if you believe in racial equality, I'm betting you react differently to people of an "other" race, in any particular situation. Maybe it's not always because of race. But be honest, a lot of the time it is.
I know exactly what you mean. It's almost as if you feel you need to be nicer to black people, isn't it? I think it's because given the world in this day and age, it's much easier to seriously offend a black person. Oh, sorry, 'african-american'.

That's not exactly what I mean; I'm considered to be a rather compassionate person, so for me to be unfriendly to anyone is unusual. I don't think I need to be nicer to black people than to other ethnicities, it's just that it's not fair that I don't treat them at least as nicely as I treat other ethnicities simply because they're black (we're assuming we're talking about people who we don't know well enough to hate or like for any particular reason).

i'm racist in the sence that i hate every race in a different way. i hate white people (im white myself) becase alot of them are greedy bastards. Alot of black people in my area think they can do whatever they want because there black. And pretty much all others are a mixture of both. This is in my area so dont get offended, i know not everyone is like this, but in my area its dead on the money.

I answered "Yes," but I'd like to believe I'm more judgmental than racist. It's not that I distrust a certain race, I look at the individual. The problem is it's just as harmful as racism because it's primarily appearance. Certain decisions about people tells me little things about them. Piercings and tattoos tell me about the person who has them, both where and what informs me of a bit. Age and race are factors, I'm less surprised by a young black male having a tattoo than an aged white woman. I get more uncomfortable the less I understand about them. A tall green man, for instance, would put me far more off-guard than a average-sized man whose skin tone matches mine. However, I tend to give people fair shots. I'll have my cautions, but I'll extend the benefit of the doubt at the very least.

I don't think this is unusual though, humanity has grappled with the fear of the unknown for a while now. That which we don't understand discomforts us. Some more than others, but as a whole, we are. We light our streets with so much synthetic light that we're practically blind to the natural light at night. It's a rational fear, and one I often feel guilty about, but still a part of self-preservation I'm not entirely sure I'll ever lose.

There's a fine line between being racist and being prejudiced. We're all prejudiced a little on the inside, it's part of human nature.

I guess the strong public focus on racism has caused lots of people who weren't racist in the first place to give it so much thought that they end up treating minorities differently out of fear of beeing seen as racists.

but whatever, i've got bigger issues... according to feminists i'm prolly a sexist cause i don't look at guys the same "I imagine myself sleeping with you and your mom" kidna way i do at girls.

Also, once i become a ninja, it's gonan be a lot easier, cause i'm just gonna treat everyone like teh inferior beeing they will be compared to my future ninja self.

Nope, I grew up with white supremicist parents who hate anyone that isn't white. Literally everyone. Course, I grew up loving the native beliefs around my small town. HA! Take that parents.

Course I'm racist. I'm not making any excuses, I am, to people I don't know. But I try and keep it from preventing me from making friendships with people from all races.

I've only ever really had one black friend in my life, and since I generally do not interact between many people that are different races (That isnt by choice, of course) I'm just, in a way, made uncomfortable when around them. It isnt racism, its just something im not used to, which I think is understandable.

That is being distrustful of fucking "gangsta" scum - people who should be shot on sight, regardless of what color they are under those size 50 pants.
Its sad, because I know people who look at me like im some sort of alien when I say that the above statement should be law.

I am not a racist. I hate everyone the same.

In all serious, I do not think I am racist but some people have complained to me that I do not seem to talk to certain races of people (I live in an international dorm). I do not see it as an issue of race though, but some people from the same country form their own little clique and this makes them much harder to approach.

I'm racist against racists. I wanna throw them all off a cliff. And yes, I know the magnificent irony within that.

*jumps off said cliff*
