yes, thats right! Mass effect 1 was all in all a game an inch above the average game standard, this had nothing to do about the alien titties we had the pleasure of meeting. It was one thing that made the game what it was however, and when small things like these are removed people should react.

In Dragonage: Origins and Mass effect 2 there where romance options just like in Mass effect 1, but as our dear local critique Yatzhee pointed out recently in these games they just rub on eachother while wearing underwear.

Why does this piss me so off? Because trough the line of time art has always been cencored in one way or another. Books has been banned, the dongs of ancient statues has been chopped off, paintings has been burned and songs made illegal. These days we don't see many books or other ancient artforms getting the ban hammer. But what of the modern artforms?

I believe that cinematic movies, video games and webdesign are just as cualifiied to be called art as their ancient cousins. And these forms of art gets cencored just like the old arts where hundreds of years ago! We are now in the renesanse of the modern pixelarts, as I enjoy calling them.

When the first masseffect was realesed there was a huge deabte whenever this game should be legal in the us, because of half an alien sideboob. thats insane! Stupid people with no connection or experience with an artform should not be allowed to have any word about it. least of all be able to ban somthing. And that is why I demand sideboob! because it is wrong to cencor games like this. certain things are reasonable to ban, but sideboob is not such a thing. what is your thoughts on this?

I believe that we should have some sort of a rating system (like we do) to keep possibly psychologically damaging things away from children, but other than that I am against all forms of censorship by the US or any other government. Whether that be video games, movies, books, statues, paintings, or whatever, censorship has never turned out well for anyone involved.

We are in a sensitive age where new media is literally pouring out of anything that can contain it. People are sensitive and it takes a long time for people to become un-sensitive.

The whole point of art is to push the envelope. I've had art I have done fussed over (which wasn't my intention by the way) and I actually felt pretty proud of myself because the wave of 'frenzy' actually made it so I reached a larger audience then I had projected.

If people didn't fuss we wouldn't know about a lot of things.

I felt the same way about the sex scenes in Mass Effect 1 as I do in movies, It slows the story down to a halt and is just there to get the lead actress naked. It worked well enough in ME 1 but doing it in ME 2 would have felt wrong I think. It would seem like they had to top it in ME3 with a shipwide alien orgy. I don't mind sex in games but I do mind Bayonetta or mindless nakedity that serves no purpose other than to say "we're mature!" while at the same time being as mature as a 14 year old with a copy of Heavy Metal.

I find it somewhat childish to remove nudity from games that are clearly marked with an 18/Mature rating. It's like censoring porn because, despite the 18/21 mark all over it, children may watch it. I think it's up to the developer though to make the choice of nudity or none, but it shouldn't become a controversial subject when it happens. Nudity happens and sex happens, so why do we need to shield it? Children learn all about it before being exposed to it in games and they tend to view pornography anyway, so what's the issue here?

In that case you can't really complain since it was not a media censorship choice. Besides in ME2 at least they didn't have sex with their clothes on unlike a certain other Bioware game.

To be honest I might do the same. I'd rather my games be known for their craft as oppose to a pair of titties. Nudity bores me after a while. Besides my imagination is much more potent and wild than anything they can animate.

Yeah, i read on the Bioware forums that is wasn't a case of self-censoring or censoring at all. Just because something can show nudity doesn't mean it has an obligation to.

If you're trying to show it because it's a boob, as an object of desire, then it should probably be banned, because that doesn't have a place in most media. There is plenty of art where people are naked to demonstrate the body as it is. As a piece of art. This should be allowed.

I would argue that the titillations brought about from boobage is different in the cases of 'full frontal' and sideboob. The former is just plain eroticism. It's there, for everyone to see, unhindered and free like the gull that just flew into my window. Sideboob on the other hand - like any restricted breast - is wrapped. It's a gift which you, the audience, get to unwrap. Rather than merely showing, it invokes the imagination. What's underneath it? What does it look like?

More than that, full boobage has none of the restrictions of covered boobs - while appealing at times, there's the matter of the Love of the Hunt Chase as well as accessing something which might be viewed as forbidden or secretive.

Obviously this is dumbing the situation down a fair bit, but I'm just drawing attention to the fact that those who like sideboob might not get the same desired experience from the full boob of - for instance - Heavy Rain.
