Did you really just show us the image, on the internet, while trying to show you had no intention of...anyways, what you did was most likely against your school's rules so you'll have to accept whatever punishment the school wants to give you then move on. And take the pic down.

Although you didn't mean any harm I thought it is now against the law, or many school policies to record footage of teachers. Like it is illigal to take pictures of someone with out their permission. So although you did not know or mean to, you did something wrong.

Your teacher overreacted, but it's not hard to understand why. Sure, you were just trying to take some effective notes, but it's not hard to picture some jerk videoing their teacher and putting it up on YouTube for kicks and giggles. Or, as others have said, stealing intellectual property.

Still, she could've simply asked you not to do that and asked you to delete the file. No need to get all dramatic about it.

Sticky situation. On the one hand, you didn't have malicious intentions, and were just trying to take the best notes possible. On the other hand, you took video of someone without asking their consent. I would go so far as to say that you made a bad decision, but I don't know if I'd actually say you did something bad.

Depeding on the school you could have broken a rule. I know the school I go to doesn't allow recording devices in the classroom unless it's cleared with the proper people first.

Personally, however, I don't think you did anything wrong.

Explain your intentions you should be fine, but asking permission beforehand never hurt.
That said, if it helps you with studies she should be supportive, I know half my AS English lessons were audio recorded by a guy in my class so he can revise better.

What country are you in?

If you're in the US, you could always pull the "1st Amendment" card.
To which they respond to him with the "Fuck off you're in high school, our rules are allowed to infringe on your rights as much as they want" card on him.

Unless she mentioned not to record her or the board, and you were using it during a test, then no, it wasn't wrong. People record the professors in Uni all the time.

She needs to just relax.

The only thing I can think of is, as people have already mentioned, that she was upset that you were recording stuff without consent. I fell into this trap before when recording audio for an assignment I had to do regarding Systems Analysis. My lecturer got a little upset because I didn't ask for permission, I simply didn't think of it.

Explain your reason for doing what you did, and apologise if you may have offended your teacher or were breaking any rules without knowing. If that isn't the reason then I am not too sure as to why she would lose her rag like that.

I for one think your idea is pretty sound. Hell I've had to do that a few times in the past.

It's standard practice in Uni to photo lectures n stuff, but school's a bit different - they don't really like people to think outside of the box ;)

I'm on your side in this, though it would have definitely been better to check with her first ;)

Just apologise. Whether you meant to cause anyone any form of stress or not, you will not benefit from trying to take this any further and battling her on any front. University lecturers at least have intellectual property rights over their lectures. I didn't realise it applied to High School teachers too but hey ho.

In future, especially if you are going to university, always ask for the lecturers permission. It may only be a formality, but this kind of situation won't occur again.

It's mostly the fact that you're supposed to pay attention in class, or at least pretend to. It's a matter of respect. That's why teachers don't let you text or play Mario Kart in the middle of class. In my school, if you have any electronics on during class, the school can take them away. The teachers usually just tell you to turn them off, but if a teacher's in a particularly bad mood, they will punish you for it.

So yes, yes you did do something bad.

My school would have taken up whatever you used to take the picture... but the last school I went to, I walked right up to the board with my phone, took three pictures so I could get the whole board, and then uploaded them all to FaceBook. I asked my teacher first, of course...

You really should have asked before you did it, but I don't see anything wrong with it.

What? Really?

No, you're completely in the right. Your teacher's being a prick. A picture of the notes and an audio recording of her lecture... that's stuff a teacher should be proud of, a true attempt at taking accurate notes for later study. It's beyond stupid to take issue with that.

I don't think it's wrong at all. Maybe you should have been a bit less discreet since teachers have a fetish for taking things that run on batteries.

I don't get it, seems unfair for you to be punished. If I were a teacher, I'd be flattered if someone recorded my lessons for later use, I guess.
