Dose anyone else think there should be an option for us to delete our own posts rather than edit them to say ignore this post and leave it there awkwardly. What do you think?

So... A moderator democracy?

No. I don't like the idea. Anyone who simply wants to fuck around and leave an offensive post open for use to see would vote in favor of kleeping it.

The mods are there for a reason, they are unbias and only have the interests of the site in mind when editting or hiding a post

EDIT: Been corrected

No man, he means our OWN posts that we want to delete. We can only edit our own posts now, this guy is opting deletion as well.

No, he means a button one can press the delete their own Post.
The "Poll" part is most likely caused by a bug where the Thread is supposed to have a Poll, but it doesn't show up.

On Topic: I remember this being brought up multiple times before, along with locking one's own Threads, and both were given adequate reasons as to why these would not work very well.
I don't remember the reasons, but I know they were accurate ones.

So... I'm against it for reasons I have forgotten.
Maybe asking the Tech Team can get you the reasons, as it seems like the best place to put such a suggestion to begin with.

OH! THAT makes sense...

Um... Suppose that could work, I wouldn't use it.

Clever idea, but then again, it would stop the use of mods because then the dicks who post dickish comments will delete said comments.

But it gives the trolls to much power, they will simply come in dick around, get everyone flaming, then quietly leave and cover their tracks on the way out. To much trouble, to much hassle, it's just as easy to edit a double post or whatever.

dont be naive. and trolls WANT you to see their stuff, they aren't that smart. Trust me, I deal with them everyday one the other 3 forums i'm on...and I troll people too (religitards and morons) on sites with more lax rules

Now you are the one being naive, yes some trolls are unsophisticated and are nothing more then moronic attention whores, but it seems you fail to realize that a trolls number one goal is to not get noticed and make trouble.

Congratulations here is your pen license. Trolling morons is not hard, any halfwit that can put 2 and 2 together (consistently) can troll a moron. A truly successful troll gets in and out unnoticed and leaves a trail of destruction in its wake.

I can see a delete post option becoming a very handy tool in the more sophisticated trolls arsenal. Not to mention like i said, it really isn't that much harder to edit a post and say "double post" or whatever. Too much effort to little gain.

Surely this is just common sense, to have control of ones posts. I see a debate forming, though I am not sure why...

In my opinion, it's not that good an idea. If you want to erase what you have written, you can just edit it out and write "Edit: On second thought, what I wrote here wasn't very smart. Please ignore." It's a much better alternative if somebody's quoted you.

I've seen other forums do this and no one exploits it in any way. It's only a good thing.

So? The mods will know what happened, but the tread will have already gone tits up before the mods get there, and the community wont know what hit them, mod wrath only works on a troll if its public, if the account gets probation/banned or whatever behind the scenes no one will have seen what happened, successful troll is still successful.
