Today, as I was about to leave the house, I encountered a small problem. I only have 2 pairs of pants, and one pair requires a belt to hold them up. Unfortunately, I don't have access to my belt at the moment, so I needed to wear the pair of pants that didn't require a belt. Unfortunately, I couldn't find them. I had left them in the living room 2 days ago before I left for a sleepover with a friend, and when I came back they were gone. My mum had moved them, but she forgot where she put them. We got into an argument about who was responsible. Is it me, who left my pants in a common area of the house, knowing where I had left them and intending to come back for them, or my mum, who moved my pants and forgot where she left them.

I know this is stupid, but I need answers.

Both actually, far as I can tell.

Partly your fault for leaving them just laying around in the house (At least toss them in your room).
Partly that of your mother for forgetting where she put them when she cleaned up.

Code:
Edit
: Another way of thinking of it would be "While she may have lost them by forgetting, she never would've touched them in the first place if you had put them up."

Oh, and check all of the Dressers/Closets in your house if you haven't already, she may have done the Laundry and mixed up the clothes.

Is it your house, or your parents? Whoever owns the house owns the rules. If you don't like it, there's always the door.

Its your mother's fault. If she's going to move someone else's stuff around, she should have the courtesy to remember where she puts it.

Shit happens to me all the time.

Each are guilty.

Your mom for forgetting where you put them.

You for leaving them there for 2 DAYS, you could have at least thrown them in your room or something sooner.

Based on the information provided - Your fault.
Pants in 'common area' of the house can be moved because that's not where pants go.

it's your fault. How many times has she told you to pick up after yourself, blah blah blah, not your maid, blah blah blah, work and slave, blah blah blah.

Also it's your fault for not installing video surveillance in the living room or GPS in your pants.

also, who has a computer and only 2 pairs of pants?

Your mother wins. I'm sorry, but I've had this argument far too often and you left them in a place where your mother needed to clean, then you were the root of the problem.

Clearly your mothers.

Just tell her that you have a meticulous but slightly odd filing system that she has now completely distrupted.

Both

Your fault for leaving there for two days just makes it look sloppy. That and why wouldn't you just put them in your closet or some place where you put your clothes, that way your mom doesn't feel the need to pick them up, and your organized.

your mom for not putting them in the place you keep your clothes.

He clearly doesn't have next gen pants.

OT: I believe it is solely your fault for leaving your pants somewhere that isn't your legs or a designated pants sanctuary. You only have yourself to blame, and now we have a poor poor pair of pants left somewhere where nobody will wear them. Where is the justice in this? WHERE I ASK!?

You're responsible to pick up after yourself and not leave shit lying around in someone else's home, even if it's your parents.

Plus, mum's always right.

actually id say your mum was in the right (mostly). you may have intended on going back to get them, but unless you told her, it wouldnt be like she could read minds. if youd left them in your room then fair enough, but considering they wernt. then yeah she had good purpose to move them (that is until she lost them).

Until I torched the main research facility for them that was the plan.

I've set it up with some random smaller company now, no need to sully Pants with association with apple right?

Who gave birth to you?

I think we have our answer. :)

Really, your mom is right. It seems weird, but parents will always need a clean house. Unfortunately they also have bad memories.
