So I'm a regular on a rather casual group of TF2 servers and would like to join in on the micspamming fun. I heard Half Life DJ was the best thing for micspam, so I decided to try it out. The only problem is that none of my audio files work. I converted them to the proper .wav files (I followed the tutorial in the manual to a T, I even used Audacity). But matter what I try, NONE of the sound files work. Occasionally I can hear myself when I hit the button, but no music. I would post this on the HLDJ forums, but you have to jump through a bunch of hoops and fill out some forms to get any help (they seriously throw your help request out if it's not formatted properly), so I figured I'd come here, the Escapist being the mostly helpful and friendly place it is.

As i know nothing of the micspamming, I would just like to offer a tip that there is an advice forum. You may get a better/quicker/more helpful post there. Best of Luck to you.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about that.

However, I have to ask: why do you want to micspam? Do the people you play with actually like that nonsense?

Every time someone starts micspamming in TF2 I ALWAYS mute them right away. It interferes with the ability to effectively communicate with teammates and drowns out vital ambient noise (like the sound of Spies decloaking right behind you). Also, most micspammers I've run across either blare atrocious music or play annoying sound boards.

wow, someone's a little butthurt (and illiterate as well, as I said in the first sentence that they're casual servers). I for one have no tolerance for idiots who whine about micspammers despite there being a mute button. either use it, leave, or pull the massive rod out of your ass.
What, exactly, is the point of micspamming though?

And don't just say "it's funny". Explain why, if you would.

well, yeah, most people I play with LOVE micspam. we're a casual group of people who just have fun (and there's a TeamTalk Server for the more "TF2 iz srs bznz" crowd). we talk, tell jokes, and just have fun while playing. it's great during events (prophunt, vs Saxton Hale, etc) and some of the stuff is piss-your-pants HILARIOUS (one guy played this clip of someone imitating Morgan Freeman recounting the events of Batman Begins, which featured this little gem: "And Batman said, "enjoy your train ride to Dickbuttville", and everyone died, especially Heath Ledger.")
it's just lighthearted, good natured fun. but it's occasionally ruined by douchers who refuse to use the mute button or find another server out of the thousands out there...

Casual or not, micspamming is inherently annoying hence the "spamming" part of the term. I'm going to outright ignore the illiteracy comment as the pure irony of your usage baffles me. Furthermore, I have the right to my opinion as you have the right to yours and I'm simply expressing that I hate micspam and by extension, you.

...
I dunno...
it's just fun, and fun doesn't always need to have a point. but if you want a real answer, it tends to brighten up the servers a bit...
for example, say Red gets ROLLED. like, BAD. on some servers, you might findd Blu flaunting their victory with trash talk and Red blaming all the F2Pers, regardless of skill. but then someone plays the "YYYYEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH" from CSI: Miami (I know it's originally from We Won't Get Fooled Again) or a quick clip of Peewee Herman laughing, and suddenly, everyone is caught off guard and the tension is released.

and it's a total blast during events. I dare you to play prophunt with Benny Hill blasting and not crack a smile.

I have the right to my opinion as well. it is my opinion that people like you are what is wrong with TF2. you take the fun out of everything. what baffles me is that ANYONE has a problem with micspam when there is a mute button. that's just being lazy. it's like saying "there's nothing good on this channel, I wish I could change it" while holding the remote in your hand. I don't get how anything I said qualifies as "irony" (aka, the most misused word in all of existance). if you don't like micspam, hit the mute button. if you "hate" a person because they like different things, then it is my opinion that you are a massive tosser. and if you hate micspammers, then why did you come into this thread in the first place? you're just trying to get yourself mad, bro.

First, I shall explain the irony in you calling me illiterate. one meaning of irony is when something is unexpected because of the details of a situation. Illiteracy is the inability to read or write. You called me illiterate, in a paragraph of writing, which was in response to a paragraph that I wrote, which was in response o your initial writings. Additionally, using the meaning or illiteracy you thought was correct, you yourself would be the illiterate one.

Beyond that, I see no reason to respond to this. In this case you're almost right. I have no reason to be in this thread. I don't like you, I don't like micspam, and I don't intend to help you micspam. Now, as I first said, good luck.

It seriously depends on the server. If you've never had your post win free frags on an alltalk server with Yakkity Sax playing in the background -- or, for that matter, the Rocky theme during a sudden death round where everyone was forced to spawn as a heavy -- you've never truly played casual TF2. The right song at the right time on the right server can be hilarious. While I would expect any players on, say, Teamplayergaming.com to get kicked for micspam, on something like CnB or Refugee Gaming, I'm kind of sad when there isn't someone micspamming. There's a time and place for everything.

Edit: Forgot to actually write something on topic.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about how to use HLDJ. I know there's some modifications you have to make to the sound files, but since it sounds like you've already done that, I don't know what to tell you.

Mute button only mutes after theyre done talking.
Ive seen mic spammers that dont have it on push to talk and therefore cannot be muted.

The thing is, we don't want to hear any micspamming ever. We shouldn't have to pull up the scoreboard and mute you all the time because you still think Yakety Sax is funny.

The obvious solution here would be to not play on the kind of server the OP is talking about, then. I've never been to a non-alltalk enabled server that had a micspamming problem, and on the alltalk servers, micspam is part of the draw. If it's against server rules and the admins aren't cracking down on it, you should find a server with decent admins. If it's not against server rules, you really have nothing to complain about, because you're the one who is out of place, not the spammer.

Besides, who plays seriously on an alltalk server? There is no way to strategize with your team without letting the other team know everything. If you want a serious game, you should find a serious server.

No problem; I'm honestly confused that so many people in this thread hate mic spammers. I've never seen a server where it was a legitimate problem. I've seen servers that had a lot of mic spammers, but those were servers where part of the point was listening to random songs while playing and chatting with both teams. The serious servers tend to crack down on it -- and I should know, since I play it both ways depending on my mood.
