I like how, if you're mining deep underground and you hit a pocket of lava, it lingers just long enough as if to say "you fucked up!" before flowing to kill you.

I was wandering, once.

The life of a nomad is a harsh one, with little reward for much struggle.

Upon a small hole in the ground did I come across, entirely on accident.

I jumped down, eager to explore, as this file was severely new and embarrassingly sparse.

Greeting me was the largest stash of coal that I had ever come across.

I still see that stash in my dreams, taunting me with its wealth beyond imagining.

In my eagerness I failed to maintain caution around the lava pit nearby.

I was struck ablaze.

I did not survive that day, and a piece of my soul died along with my character.

To this day, I still haven't been able to relocate that particular pit, and for that..

I weep.

Just gotta be careful. And increment yourself, and practice caution. Like never go jumping by lava carrying that much iron ore that needs smelting. The lesson here is clearly Lava requires caution. Or, alternatively, make more trips back to a chest for safe keeping.

And yeah, framerate issues are a nuisance, but I'd suggest switching to peaceful if you're spending a lot of time around lava.

I don't play Minecraft as a Survival game. I use INVedit and use it as a huge world for building, much more fun that way IMO.

I've lost multiple loads of iron ore and diamond in my unlimited cave system. I really don't know what to do. I lay about 300 torches worth of space each exploration and always lose it all, without hope of recovery, each time.

Took a week to build my combined fortress/mineshaft when I broke through the floor when digging and fell to my death. I lost all my items and, now here's the kicker, I forgot how to get back to my fortress from the spawnpoint. Rookie error.

You mean in "still in alpha"? That's the something different Minecraft is.

Not really, it being in alpha has nothing to do with the natural of the game. Though Notch has mention that he may add some sort of end goal in Minecraft, but also that he's not sure.

That aside, Minecraft is very different than every other game. It's completely open, it's only as difficult as the player wants it to be; unlike other games the players motivation to build is what keeps things going, not gradual progression which is present in every other game. This has nothing to do with it being in alpha, and everything to do with it being an open canvas.

Yup, same thing I do. Only for the rare or annoying to get materials, though (diamond, brick, boatloads of wood early on, glass). Actually, never mind, I mod in everything...

I foolishly attacked a pig zombie the very first day the Nether was implemented. To my surprise, attacking one of them doesn't cause just one to attack you, but every one in the Nether...

To make matters worse (not sure if this was a bug, or this is how it is now, haven't played lately), but my items weren't retrievable. I figured they just weren't retrievable in the Nether, so I died intentionally to test it in normal world, and the weren't retrievable there either.

Just use a hacking programme so you don't have to dick around. That's what I did.
What's the point of playing then?
The last time I checked, when my lego man "died" to pirates, my collection of lego did not cease to exist.

Hell, if you're playing the game to build, why on earth would you really want to trouble yourself with death anyhow?

Yup. Exactly the same thing. Fucking lava. There should be a patch where catching on fire isn't an insta-kill... Only now I have discovered the wonders of peaceful.

I've had that happen before. Except it wasn't really a frame rate issue that put me in. It was me thinking I was Spiderman as I tried to make a jump that I shouldn't have even attempted.

That's why I started carrying a bucket of water with me. Catch on fire? Dig a quick hole, dump in water, jump in. Live.

My biggest problem with Minecraft isn't really a problem with the game. I lack the creativity to build awesome things, so I lose interest pretty quickly. The best part for me is starting a new game and trying to survive a few nights.

I think the game really needs an end goal.

I just bought Minecraft yesterday my biggest FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU moment was when the game crashed today and I had just died and it got rid of all the items I had just lost. It also reset half the stuff I had mined out of the ground. So I had to make an entire tunnel system again.

I bought minecraft recently and have been playing it loads for the last 4 days.
I started a hudge underground tunnel to mine for stuff, diamond, iron ect. when I found a cave allready formed so I went though mining the rock and minerals and got a load of iron and other bits and bobs.

I reached the end of the cavern and there was a pool of lava, as with past experiance with these pools I knew it was likly there was things a I wanted under the pool.So I dag a big pit next to the pool and started to empty it with my buckets when I had to jump down to reach the other lava blocks. I was safe on a ledge when I suffered a framrate issue and somwhow ended up stepping in the lava. So I set on fire and died so I lost

:2 buckets,32 blocks of iron ore,5 blocks of gold ore,a diamond pick, some stone tools my watch and my minecart

I managed to recover some of the coal I mined (about 67 pieces) but that iron was sooooo needed by me as I only have 4 iron ingots so I was a 'bit' pissed off and am glad that knoch is constantly updating minecraft as hopefully he can make a way to protect your stuff when you die in lava as the less frustrating the better

has anyone else had a FUUUUUUUUUUUU.... moment in minecraft and if so why?
LoL happened to me too.. You kinda have to do contingency planning the moment you encounter lava. One such contingency being DONT GET TOO CLOSE TO THE GODDAMN LAVA XD

And no, I dont think Notch will ever present us with an "Anti-lava item save" sh*t happens, deal with it and move on, annoying as it is xD Lava is death, dont try to be smart around it, make nice big platforms or steer clear of it.
Or pour water on it. Seriously, it helps.

Edit:

The whole point of playing games like this is to:
A: Develop your creativity,
B: Express it,

If you have trouble being creative, start with something basic, mimic something, perhaps your own house? Sure we cant exactly make slanted roofs but that can be worked on.
But yeah try something simple like that, try to think how many blocks would go where, would a hallway be two blocks wide or one? Would it be three blocks tall or two?

You might come up with some crazy idea later like "What if I had a tower on top of my house?" and build a tower you could climb up to from a ladder.

Another thing you can do is get a pan/pencil and paper, preferably grid paper so you can plan out the blocks, the halls and the platforms level by level, turn it into a blueprint for how you want it to look then copy it into the game, the harder you work at it the more satisfied you can be with the end result.
It doesn't matter what anyone says so long as you yourself are proud of it.

That's my spiel anyway lol

I still need to get Minecraft, so...yeah. Pie is good.
what kind of pie blueberry?
Naw, I prefer good old apple pie.
Yeah. Apple is the best pie.

OP: A creeper somehow spawned on my - curved - roof and exploded, destroying the lit glas roof and sending me sailing merrily into a pit of lava.

I had a diamond pick, axe, and around 128 coal, as well as numerous stacks of materials.

I was pissed.
