Throughout history, there have been many ideas, good and bad, and many of these ideas have come to fruition, and been executed, with either positive or negative results, leading to four combinations of idea and result (I am using gaming examples, but this is applicable to a much broader subject matter, so I'm putting it in off-topic discussion):

1. Good Idea, Good Execution. Example: Not needed, self-explanatory.
2. Good Idea, Bad Execution. Example: From what I understand (via Yahtzee), many mechanics from Alone in the Dark are good ideas on paper but were done in a stupid way (or simply didn't work in the actual game).
3. Bad Idea, Bad Execution. Example: Again, pretty much self-explanatory.
4. Bad Idea, Good Execution. Example: Kingdom Hearts, Combining Disney movies with Final Fantasy is one of the stupidest idea's I've ever heard, but it turned out as a really great game.

With the introduction out of the way, lets get to the discussion: Which of these have you seen the most of? Why do you think that is? Could you give some examples of that category (or multiple categories)? If your example(s) is(are) in a mismatched category (Good, Bad or Bad, Good), why do you think it(they) turned out the way it(they) did?

Notes:
1. If there is a fifth/sixth category that I did not think of please post it below so that I can add it to the OP and Poll.
2. If this has been done before (I have used the search bar) please link to the original thread.

I would have to say that Good idea, and bad Execution. Alot of people can think a good idea if they sit on an egg for a while but to actually feed and maintain the idea is hard work. Hard work is scary, so they often get done poorly because the idea may be good but the person who thought of it didn't have the means to actually pull it off but still tried. Which is admirable in itself, stupid, but admirable IF they admit that they screwed up.

Bad Idea, Bad Execution.

I hear alot of stories about how things are done at various workplaces from various people. And all I can think of when I hear these things is "Companies and their management have no understanding of economics at all". No, they don't. Because they do things that seem like bad decisions and then I find myself not surprised when the bad idea turned out...bad! Maybe I'm actually a prodigy in money and product management in disguise. I never took a single business or economics course, and yet I can see clearly what is a good plan and what is bad. This leads me to wonder what I learned in college that business majors didn't. That much is not important.

HERE is a good example of a bad series of business plans. Company A is floundering and is making a deal to be bought out by Company B for some sort of benefit that Company B sees worth taking. Problem: Company A is in dire straits because of its crud-awful management, but is entering into a contract that keeps said management after the buy-out. And Company B is dumb enough to say YES! This may be a standard practice, but the result is obvious. Later on, Company B is big trouble because (Guess what!) its management screwed up MORE stuff! Rinse and repeat for tentative Company C, D, E, and whoever else.

Another point of interest: All those banks that went out of business because of loans and mortgages. "How could this happen?" You have NO MONEY (or liquid assets, if you prefer).

I live in a redneck state. You only those who also live in redneck states know of how stupid their inhabitants can be. In my town somebody gets injured about every week and a half or so, more often than that on occasion. I have had my share of stupid ideas, but i'm smart enough not to go trough with them.

I voted for Good idea/ Bad execution. It takes time to make things work, and the first attempt may not always be successful/

I half want a category for typical games. Someplace to put all these shooters that fail to push the envelope.
