So the announcement of Portal 2 and the circulating rumors of HL2 EP:3 got me thinking. Isn't it very possible that Valve will come out with another Orange Box-esque package? With The Orange Box's unfathomable success it would only make sense for Valve to come out with a similar type deal. When I told this to my friend he jokingly said, "How about The Green Box?". That's when it hit me. The Blu Box. The more I thought about it, the more ingenious it became.

In Portal, your two portals are blue and orange. This would fit a really nice theme with an Orange and Blue Box. Also, in Team Fortress 2 the Blue team is actually called the Blu team. So, why not call it the Blu Box and throw in a Team Fortress 3 or, if that can't be done perhaps a Team Fortress 2 expansion of some sort? Throw it all in with HL2 Ep:3 and Blackmesa Source. (Blackmesa Source as an extra as it will be free anyways.) THE BLU BOX. I know I would buy it.

I realize the dicussion value in this isn't incredible but, I really wanted to share the idea with everyone.

I think your idea is good. I'd buy the blu box. What's black mesa source?

I think they'd have to wait a few more years and release a few more games. Besides, the Orange box was incredibly well balanced, you got one full-length single player game, one good multiplayer game, two little bitesized sequels to thew single player game and a short but original game.

A proper remake of half life on the source engine.

Thats actually a great idea.

You can get Portal 2, HL3, updated TF2 (for the console users), hell even something like a L4D 2 expansion.

I'd totally buy it.

Blackmesa source is a HL2 mod being made by third party developers that is an exact remake of HL1 with the HL2 engine. Valve offered to buy it from them but they wanted it to be free.

Thanks guys. I'd love to play that if it came out on a console. I never played the first one and only played the second one when it came out in the orange box. I wish I had a gaming PC now, if only to use mods.

That's optimistic. With HL2:E3 I'd have a reason to purchase it, but then again I could just wait for the standalone.

I would buy it, infact... The blu-box is the reason I never bought the orange box...

You see, the Orange box has everything but Episode 3 so I figured that they would release a similar package when Ep3 came out with all the Half-life2 games.... Of course I never thought of the name 'Blu box'. My theory was to wait until Ep3 came out before I bought anything... But as you can imagine... It's been a long wait...
But now that Portal 2 is coming out its becoming more of a reality. Although the new box might actually contain nothing from the orange box now that Portal 2 is coming out... Instead of the 3 half life games and TF2, they could put in Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. Now that would be awesome.
If that came out I would run to Gamestop and Buy the Orange Box and the Blu Box straight away.

EDIT: I'd love a slice of Pizza right now... But I'd honestly prefer this 'Blu Box' of yours to be released.

Sounds great... if something like TF3 could exist in the next decade, which it won't. I'd still buy the proposed Blu Box, but it couldn't meet the sheer awesome of the Orange Box thanks to TF2, which as I recall was so delayed it was declared vaporware and forgotten...

Sounds like a great way to delay the Portal 2 release for another year or 2.

The Orange Box was a compilation of small games while Portal 2 in itself is a full retail game, it just isn't feasible.

I'd prefer it if it were called the Blue box, but without the e it just reminds me of some bad R&B singer.

With the e, I like it.

Well, they could do what they did with HL2 and release it earlier than the Box. HL2 was out for a while before the Orange Box came out and it was a nice addition to the box. I don't see why they couldn't repeat what worked.

proper? As in, There's been a bad one?
They released a remake a few years ago called Half life: Source, the graphics remained the same with some new weapon models as well as the titular engine change. It was in essence a way of showing how easily content in the old format could be converted onto the (Then) new source engine and while it wasn't bad (It was basically half life, it can't possibly be bad) for a remake it added very little and felt pointless on the whole.

I Dunno the Source version worked allot better for me than my very old boxed copy of HL, mostly because the stuck on the elevator bug wasn't there. On normal HL you know the elevator that goes down and headcrabs come sliding down and jump at you (but mostly miss lulz) well when the elevator makes it to the bottom (or cargo lift maybe?) I Get stuck in the floor I can shoot but cant move, but the Source version didn't have that which made me happy, also the Wide-screen support was also nice. its a shame no new content was added though.

On topic, I Can see what your going for but they would need 5 Releases you could say:

* Left 4 Dead
* Left 4 Dead 2
* Portal 2
* Half - Life Episode 3
* ???

We would still be short 1 Title, they could throw in CSS or something I would suppose.

The idea is solid but they would need at least another title to throw in there and id doubt it would be CSS or DOD.

The reason they released the Orange Box as one product in the first place was to enourage people who wanted Half-Life 2 to buy the little-known TF2 and Portal. They won't need to do that again because both games are now massively popular. Also, there won't be a TF3 any time soon since they still haven't finished updating the current version.
