A new game has come out - its the bees knees, reveiwers and players are loving it, both singleplayer and multiplayer. its the hot new game, thats selling in droves...

And the basis of the game is that women are inherently better at whatever form of combat its based around. Whether its a mystical force, or a unique and powerful control system that women inherently adapt to faster and better, women are the primary force in the singleplayer, and to map this across to multiplayer by saying that female characters gain skills/ranks/abilities at a notably faster rate. A character of either gender starts even, and the nominal 'caps' are even, but a female character will gain those ranks and reach that cap faster than a male character. What would you make of this?
>>Female level faster
>>Pick Male anyways
>>Go full hermit.
>>Troll everyone with virtual tits for being casual-fags.
>>Validate existence
>>Cry self to sleep.

I'd be very annoyed due to how unbalanced it is. I mean, having slightly lower strength but higher intelligence as a female than a male, but still advancing at the same rate, etc if good. Tipping it that was is shit.

I'd consider it to be a ridiculous attempt at blatant attention whoring, but if the gameplay was good I'd play it anyways (as a woman, of course, I'm a born optimizer). Never let politics get in the way of a good game.

There's no point in giving women an advantage over men other than shoving a "Women > Men" ideal down people's throats. The game may be trying to make up for women generally being crapped throughout history, but the entire point of equality is to put people on equal levels, not give one party an advantage. Both sexes need to be given equal stats with the only differences being cosmetic.

I would like to see some actual differences in women and men in video games, but not sexism. The idea is silly. Now what would be cool to see is some actual real differences between men and women in games, like for instance women tend to be more dexterous than men. Men are generally stronger. Women's brains are generally wired better for fluency and communication. Men's brains are generally wired better for spatial recognition and mental rotation of objects. They are rather small and general differences but it would be sort of interesting to see a well researched game add small bonuses (not penalties) to characters based on gender or even nationality and race. It would be difficult ground to tread: a bonus called "All Asians are Great at Math" is obviously racist were as a bonus called "Confucian Legacy" that grants a +1 to memory would be just fine.

Personally it would be nice to play a character and get a few miscellaneous bonuses based on character generation.

Ex. A Male Mixed/Hispanic American who is a Scholar.

"American Ingenuity" America's greatest resource has always been diversity and creative thinkers. +1 Cunning
"Gifts of Your Ancestors" Those who came before you lived through persecution and racism, not only surviving but leaving their children a chance at a better life. You have learned from the stories of those who set out before you, their gift shall not be in vain. +1 to Wisdom
"Visualization" Chance gave you an Y chromosome, and a small advantage solving difficult problems. +1 Cunning.

Awards for existence. Nice thought. Every character gets to choose from a hand full of special, and small, bonuses.

Edit: Thats me in this imaginary game.

MOUNT AND BLADE! MOUNT AND ****ING BLADE!

It reverses this, with the male players having an advantage! And I'm currently playing a female character for that exact reason! IT'S FUN!

AAARGH!

There's nothing wrong with giving one gender an advantage over the other, as long as it's within reason, and justified by the story. The specific advantage given by the OP sounds pretty crap/unjustifiable, but the idea of gender making a difference to character shouldn't be pissing off so many people. Gender is most certainly NOT simply an aesthetic choice in real life, why must it be so in video games?

I admit multiplayer would pose more of a problem, mechanically speaking, but for single player there is no reason to complain about this.

It's not a good idea from either angle. You shouldn't make men better than women or women better than men, it's just sending out the message that you think one gender is dominant.

Sorry if this has been previously mentioned...
But this was the case in Gunz: The Duel.

Female characters had significantly smaller hitboxes compared to the male characters (at least when I played a couple years ago) and their animation timings could be used to abuse the walljump/slash thing better.

So all in all, at least then, female characters were better suited to every aspect of the game.

I think it would be a cool idea just to see how some players would react psychologically to it,but other than that it would just be a weird disadvantage that doesn't make much sense for a game.

...so its a game about wonder woman? I wouldn't mind playing it so long as it works like it does in our reality, if women are the dominat sex then men need to be treated as precious. how that translates to a game is that male characters are always mission critical characters, they level up slower and can't go toe to toe with a female character of the same level but if they get blown away its game over.

Could not agree more. Right now, the industry is starting small; with Brink, smaller characters are faster but don't take bullets as well. For the difference with women, I would suggest an accuracy bonus and a smaller hit box at the expense less speed and less power.

As far as leveling goes for rpgs, I would have them level up faster initially, but then at a certain peak, slow it down. Ideally, the men and women would hit the max level with the same amount of xp. The men would have a more consistant leveling curve in comparison.

As far as stats for the rpg, and example would be this: Woman- +1 wisdom, -1 strength. Men- +1 int, -1 dext/agil. Adding background info to change the stats would be awesome as well, like you suggested. I would prefer to have one additive trait and one subtractive trait. For example: childhood= magician- +5 points to be split between dext/agil and charisma. Easily bruised- -3 to stam/end.

The OP, however, suggested is stupid. This topic was created for the sole purpose to get a rise out of people. that's trolling. I see your bullshit OP and fuck you.

Is this supposed to be an attack on Brink, as in making people think about if the situation were reversed? Because I'm guessing few people would be male in such a game, essentially meaning that the game has no men. That's a clever idea, but because I'm not sure of your intentions with this thread, I can't really make a definitive comment.

Would you guys still call it 'propaganda' if it were the other way around? Would it still be pandering to the male demographic if it were the male characters who had an advantage? I really do wonder.

As to the OP, honestly, it doesn't sound fun. Everyone would play as female because it'd be easier. It might work better though if the character who levels up slower gets a bonus after doing so. Otherwise it'd just be...bad.

If the purpose of the game was to create controversy then it should simply shift the roles that men and women tend to play on the battlefield. Make the women the offense and the men the defense. Instead of having the men charging while the women provide back-up from the distance, switch that up. It could be fun.

It think Elder Scrolls will give minimal stat buffs depending on gender. This would only come into play when min/max-ing is involved, so it otherwise doesn't matter.

Why would that crap even matter? Offsetting the abilities of a virtual avatar is only a forced representation of the unevenness of the sexes. They're game characters. If it's an action game, they should be badass. If it's a horror-adventure, both sexes are going to be weak and defenseless and it's going to be a boring game. Suck it Amnesia!
