Poll: If Nintendo started making SNES's again, would you buy one?

Just reading a piracy topic there, and it got me thinking: I was a Mega Drive kid growing up, and the one time I found a second hand SNES years later my mum refused to buy it for me because, 'you have enough consoles,' (she didn't seem to see my logic when I pointed out she had at least thirty pairs of shoes at home,) and so I went without the SNES experience.

I know you can get them on eBay these days quite easily, but sometimes they can run up a fair price or aren't in the best condition, so I wondered: if Nintendo started manufacturing the consoles and cartridges again for a considerably lower price (say twenty bucks for the console and five quid a game) would that be something you'd find appealing? (This question can also relate to Sega and the Mega Drive.)

I think, if production costs weren't too high, it would be a nice little money spinner for companies and a chance to experience some proper retro gaming, as opposed to all this Virtual Console nonsense.

Edit: For the purposes of this debate, assume you don't already own a working SNES.
Edit 2: After some people made the pretty cool suggestion, I've added a new option in the poll.

Word, all my old consoles all work; from my black and white Gameboy right up to my PS2. By contrast, I've had to replace both my 360 and PS3; as has every one I know. That's what I call progress!

If you know where to look, SNESes can be quite cheap. I got one for 20 quid on the tail end of last year. The games usually cost more though =[

I wouldn't buy one, because I already own one but I'd definitely buy re manufactured games.

Yeah, I've seen a couple, but they always look pretty beat up and I think it'd be nice to have a brand new console with the box and everything. Maybe it's weird, but I find one of the greatest pleasures in life is unboxing a brand new console.

I'm a little conflicted here. I love the SNES to death but is it really worth buying now?

...Aw hell, I'd probably get one.

Yeah, I'd love to be able to play some old SNES games as they were meant, instead of using an emulator. At least I got FF Mystic Quest, Zelda aLttP, Super Metroid, and Star Fox.

Hell no, it'd be messy as hell and look like crap on HDTVs. An official emulator for various formats like smartphones and PC + re-released titles? Yes, I might consider purchasing.

I know the feeling. I still remember the Christmas I woke up with a brand new Megadrive.

Them were the days.

No.
1) Mine still works just fine.
2) Emulation is more practical*

(*before you jump down my throat, let me point out that both the Wii and the 3DS also use emulation to run those old games, not just the retro-pirates)

Still got mine. So, no.
If I wouldn't have one, then maybe I would buy one - assuming I still had games.

I've actually got one that works, the thing that's kept me from getting it set up is the fact that it's just the system, no controllers or cables. The cables are so expensive these days that it would actually be cheaper to buy either a system bundle with the cables, controllers, and a couple of games, or to buy a brand new Retro Duo (or another, similar clone.) So I guess what I'm saying here is, if Nintendo put it back into production, I'd snap up a set of cables, but I don't need another system.

Also, for those who are unaware, there are a few clones that you can buy, even in the notoriously un-clone friendly US. Around here, I can walk into an FYE (a chain of record stores that are usually found in malls) and pick up an SNES clone, and the few remaining mom and pop game stores sell them, too.

Oh, man... I've seen bits and pieces of old consoles sitting in thrift stores. I remember seeing a PlayStation sitting around, but it seemed a bit busted up, and I don't think it would have been entirely functional. In fact, not too long ago, I saw a couple of Genesis controllers bundled together. Goodness! They're a whole lot larger than I thought they'd be! The console wasn't there; just the controllers. I even remember seeing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sitting around.

I can't believe that is an idea Nintendo would actually do but never actually do. I guess they're not that cruel. Or it's because those games would be too cheap to make some money.
