If bending were real and it worked as it does in "Avatar: The Last Airbender," what element would you want to be able to bend?
Water [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcBv_sJQDgw&feature=related]
Earth [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ1STVNs_tY&feature=related]
Air [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRMSdpaELDw&feature=related]
Fire [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxXlBMQSdkI&feature=related]

Waterbending would be extremely useful if I lived near the water, and I could also bend the water in people's cells and blood, letting me control their bodies; however, I don't live near water and I find the entire concept of controlling someone else's body like that disturbing.

Earthbending would be, undoubtedly, the most powerful and dangerous of the four. I'd be able to create shields of earth to protect myself from bullets, I could create houses, walls, roads, and tunnels. I'd be able to flatten out the ground, create all manner of blunt and sharp weapons, and create rudimentary projectile weapons out of stone. EDIT: Earthbenders can bend metal as well.

Airbending would be pretty fun, but other than being able to jump really high, it wouldn't be all that useful.

Firebending would be immensely useful in every day life and it would make me nigh unstoppable in any fight. I'd be able to easily light fires, I'd be able to warm myself when needed, I'd be able to create a light source whenever, and I'd even be able to shoot lightening and fly if I trained long and hard enough. I would even be able to heat a bowl of soup or a cup of hot coffee or tea with my hands alone.

Earthbending would be the most useful in combat and physical labour, but I can't see many practical applications for it in everyday life. Firebending, on the other hand, would be immensely useful in both fights and everyday life. So I'll have to go with Firebending. What about you?

Let me clarify: If you could bend any element IN REAL LIFE, what would it be? Keep in mind that if you go on a killing spree, you'll soon be met with lots and lots of bullets...To the face. In the time it would take an airbender to suffocate every police officer and soldier around him, the police officers and soldiers would have had enough time to have emptied a fair amount of lead into said airbender's body. They'd just have to hold their breath long enough to get off a shot. And no, the lack of air wouldn't prevent all the guns from firing. People would still be able to use gas powered guns and tasers.

Water, it makes up a large percentage of the earth and is easy to create.

Water, if it rains, you're pracically invincible, plus humans are what, 80-90% water, you could just suck that out of them, easy kills.

I said Earth, purely because it means I can just make little holes for people to fall into, them close them up again.

Where's heart? /joke

But I voted Earth. Crushing people in combat is my style. And riding a wave of rock would be awesome.

Fire:Move all heat away from someone, freeze those suckers. Waterbenders just got schooled.
Air: Can't breathe without air? Can't fire without oxygen!
Water: People are full of water, none of the this 'bloodbending' stuff, just suck the water straight out of them and you win.
Earthbending: Gravel Machine-gun, need i say more?

Apply some imagination, and the whole thing becomes an amusing exercise in 'killkillkillkill'.

Airbending all the way, being able to blow someone's eyes, ears and lungs out with air pressure kind of kicks ass. Also, flying rules. Firebenders are then also rendered as threatening as a blunt penknife, as is any other thing that likes to breath.

Earth because i live in the mountains and you could bend it almost any where if i was strong enough.

Also nice to know that earth is tied for first

Well yea, but other than killing people, I don't see many other practical uses for water. I mean yea, you could suck the water out of plant and animal life and other people and use that, so you'd never really be without water unless you're in a desert, but I don't see many practical uses for waterbending if you live in a major city.

I don't get why so many people are picking a certain element because they think it'd be the best to kill people with. Seriously dude, what the hell would you do WHEN YOU GOT SHOT WITH FUCKING BULLETS?! This is 2009, we have guns. If you're going to pick an element to kill people, pick earth cause you could shield yourself, bring down and crush entire buildings, and shoot stone spikes at people. I picked fire cause, while killing people is fun in games, I don't much care for it in real life. I'd be able to defend myself with firebending and I could use it in my daily life.

Earth because I'm really defensive rather than offensive in any game involving the 4 classical elements

Well, Water is made up of two elements (oxygen and hydrogen), the air is made up of multiple elements (nitrogen, oxygen, carbon, argon etc.), Fire isn't an element, just a chemical reaction and "earth" is just variations between sand, clay and silt, encompassing a wide variety of elements making controlling just one pretty pointless.

I'd control hydrogen, as it is the most populous element in the universe.

The problem with firebending is you need a flame to bend, and it's only real uses are heat (cooking or self) and lighitng a cigarete. Water is everywhere, and it's not always about killing people, that was just an extreme example.

Oh, and as for bullets, did you know that most bullets won't travel through more than a few feet of water, if you were to increase the water pressure you could create a shield of water an inch thick that would stop a .50 cal rifle. To normal people it'd be like punching Steel wall. that and there would almost never be a case where you couldn't use it, with fire you'd need a nearby flame, and earth you'd need to take material from the ground, which would leave damage.

You fail. Don't overanalyze the question. Just answer it. Would you rather control Water, Earth, Air, or Fire?

Actually...firebenders create and bend fire, not just bend it. If I could bend fire, I'd never be without something to bend. I could shoot fire from my hands or create and indefinitely sustain a flame in the palm of my hands. Hell, I could even create a 10 foot long fire dragon and make it soar through the air.

As for the water shields, yea, you could protect yourself from bullets and even make ice shields or highly pressurized water shields, but it would take more time and concentration than just raising a 6+ foot thick 20+ foot high wall of stone. You'd have to suck the water from people and then bring it to you, shape it, and then pressurize it. And unless you want to have to hold it in place indefinitely, you'd need to freeze it as well.
