I'm norwegian, and speak norwegian (duh) and english fluently. In middle school I chose spanish over the other languages we have to pick. I chose spanish out of practicality and thought it was something I would find useful. It started out fine but I lost interest for it in high school. I didn't really care much for the culture or language after a while. And learning it just because it could be useful didn't do it for me.

A couple of months ago I started listening to some japanese music, which escalated quickly, and now I'm learning the language. It's a lot more fun when you take a bit more interest in something that comes from the country whose language you're learning. Y'know, actually knowing what the singers are saying is very nice too! And since the studies I'm currently doing are about marine biotechnology (Japan loves that stuff), I'll probably end up working in relation with some japanese company in some way in the future. I have been an anime fan for a couple of years, but that's not really been that huge of a reason for me to learn japanese.

I already speak passable French, so I went for Arabic. One, I was born in Dubai, so learning the language seems appropriate. And two, it'd really mess with xenophobic Americans.

Haha! I know some Arabic so from time to time my sis and I would have started chatting about the weather randomly to scare some people away. I know the feeling.

I go for Spanish or a better understanding of Arabic and being able to speak fluidly without an accent.

Depends. If I have a time machine, then latin would be nice. If not... maybe German or chinese?

German because Germans are cool and Chinese, because I for one shall accept our Chinese overlords with open arms.

Russian, or Japanese. As much as I like learning Spanish because of my heritage, I'd like to learn a language that caters to my other interests too. I plan on taking a class once I finish my primary schooling for one or both, depending on how my life is at that point. :)

Yess, yesss, soon...I can watch anime & hentai without dubs!

Is the language really that important when watching hentai? Or maybe I just watch hentai for the wrong reasons?

Definitely Japanese. I'm a pretty big fan of Anime and JRPG's so it'd be nice to be able to read/ understand the original Japanese if I really wanted to or couldn't get it any other way.

Japanese. I don't think my claiming to speak it in but just replacing all the l's with r's is now more racist than anything else now...

I've been wanting to learn Japanese for quite some time now. Took Spanish in high school and didn't do well after the first year. Now that I'm in college, I'm in the middle of learning ASL. It's coming pretty easy to me, though I have a bad habit of signing exact English instead of true ASL. I'll save Japanese for the summer, along with playing the Piano and buying a new, amazing computer.

Total language geek here. I wanna learn absolutely everything.
Japanese and French I've already studied, but I shall certainly brush up on them when I have the motivation. If I had to pick a new one I'd say Arabic or Persian. I'd absolutely love to speak Korean. Mandarin seems very useful. Always wanted to learn Hindi and German too.
Can't really pick just one, and I don't want to either. If you want to learn a new language, then just do it. It's not as hard as everyone puts it up to be.

Voted for Spanish (Mexican), as half my family vacations there so I'd have use for it. If I could I'd also go for German/Russian mostly because they sound badass, and Farsi, because why the hell not.

Hey I remember this thread!

In fact, here's my post:

I'm learning French this year, but I would say I would want to learn Russian. With English, French, and Russian I could conceivably navigate around more of the Eastern Hemisphere without any difficulties

Chinese/(South) Korean, I imagine.
Would be very useful the way the world is developing.

Already know English, German and a bit of Japanese.

I already learned my second language. English. First is Spanish (Argentina Spanish, not Spain Spanish). But I checked Japanese from the list as a third language, since I'd love to travel there someday.
