I prefer the Mobile Infantry, they have so much personality when compared to the Imperial Guard. That was my main problem with Warhammer 40K, none of the armies had personality, unless you play Ork, who don't fit my play style.

But yeah, Mobile Infantry.

We stand ready to serve.

Sure I would be nothing more than a faceless grunt but I like the endless legions of the Imperial Guard.

I'm going to side with the IG on this one but I'm going to get more specific. For most Guardsmen the choice is between the Commisar and the enemy and they would rather face the enemy.

Catachans on the other hand go through quite a large number of Commisars, especially ones that piss them off. So they kill their Commisars in "accidents", then go and take on the big bads of the 40k universe wearing just a wifebeater vest and a 2 foot long knife. Badassery made of win in my opinion.

Guard, I want a las-gun.
Just in case this hasn't been mentioned, the MI from the book are practically the basis for Space Marines.

Folks, I think its clear that the Guard would decimate the Mobile Infantry. In terms of weaponry, numbers, training, tenacity and emprah-ness.
Granted the MI where (as far as I can tell) the basis for most modern day space marines, they got nerfed something shocking and thus CHARGE FOR THE EMPRAH!

By the way, I would also join the guard, cause the then I might get close enough to see a REAL speehs mahreen.

Seems to be alot of love for Imperial Guard and I can't tell if it's an underdog thing or people identifying alot better with those cowardly piss ants.

Well if I wanted an effective army then Starship Troopers is my pick.
I raise you a baneblade.

/discussion,
I raise you a MI Power Armor Suit.

Jetpack + Tactical Nuclear Weaponry vs. what? some lascannons, a BFG and some machine guns?
And yet my baneblade is still standing. Jetpacks and small nukes all you got?
>Implying a Baneblade can take a nuke.

Lol no. One of them got offed by a two-penny angelic thing with a sword. They can't take nukes.

The Imperial Guard: laser pointers and cardboard armour but awesome tanks and titans.

Mobile Infantry: ageing one armed-officers and bad actors with crap hair.

No contest, even Michael Ironside can't compare to Gaunt's Ghosts!

For the foul crime of Necromancy, Commissar Fuklaw sentences you to death.

O (foul, rotting reanimated corpse of a) T: Mobile Infantry, the bugs are pretty much a minor inconvenience, it's only being stupidly overconfident that gets the MI slaughtered.

Depends.

Which is cooler? The Imperial Guard. Simply because they exist in the WH40K universe.

Which would I rather join? The Starship Troopers, because I'd actually have a chance to survive. When the shit hits the fan, billions of Imperial Guard can and will be sacrificed to ensure victory.
The Starship troopers are not much better in that respect.

First battle in the movie? 100,000 died to the bugs in an HOUR, with their commanders thinking that a Zerg rush was the best thing that could counter what basically WAS the Zerg.

At least the Imperial Guard have a good chance of having some combined arms (aka armor and air support) and use descent tactics at least some of the time, so your chances to survive. You also get a free book of comedy/toilet paper in the form of the The Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer.

God Emperor help you if your a Planetary Defense Force, though.

Unless you're Cadian PDF. The Interior and Internal Guards are still better than the average Guardsmen from other planets.

Of course, Cadian's are some of the toughest people that aren't Space Marines and they recruit from sources other than gangs.

Everybody else, the PDF's job is to slow the enemy down by being dinner.

Very well, I will commute your sentence of death to a lifetime of service as a Homicidal Rage Counsellor for the Angry Marines.

That sounds like a job I can handle...from the other side of a void shield maybe?

Imperial Guard, as long as I get to serve with Grifen and Magot.

Oh, and that one whose name I can't recall who's like the accident-prone good-luck-charm.
