Really depends on the mood I'm in. If I'm in a more positive mood, I'm fairly optimistic, but when I'm in a more negative mood, pessimism is part of my M.O. I can't really say I'm more of one than the other.

I tend to be optimistic regarding the long term, but in short term I'm relistic with a pessimistic tendency. Basically, I'm pretty sure life will be good three years from now, but I'm not so sure it will be good tomorrow.

More of an optimist, definitely. Although I don't just put blind faith into things; I prepare for the worst, but I don't necessarily expect it.

Actually, I will my mind to expect the best. I usually avoid downers, so I've taken it upon myself to not become that which I dislike. Unless the situation really is hopeless.

I generally tend to think that more bad things happen than good, and think the same of people, but tend to take things as the come without much complaint. Que sera, sera. What would that make me?

Both equally, I'd imagine.
Some might mistake me for a pessimist, though.
But you don't know me, do you? Silly assumptions made by silly people.

I know what I like in life, I dream of a brighter tomorrow with a world free of judgement and despair.
Major scientific breakthroughs, space colonization and the ridding of archaic (economic or otherwise) practices.
I know that will happen at the end of my life, if not after...or maybe even at all. But I can dream.

So I'm like an optimist for the future, while being a pessimist for the present.
Go correct yourself, world and the peoples on it. I'll wait while doing the things that I do.

Optimistic, as a rule. Whenever I start to feel cynical, I realise I can't keep it up or something happens that makes me smile and I forget all my pessimism. I'm generally no good as staying miserable, so I just opt to be upbeat about everything I can. I like to I'm not, y'know, an idiot about it - I recognise there's some crappy stuff in the world, but I can't bring myself to be constantly down about it. For me, life's much better if you try and look on the bright side as much as possible.

I'm a pessimist hiding in an optimist's skin. What does that make me?

Neither. I'm a realist.
I'm the closet to that more than anything, though. Criticism is golden for everything in my eyes...

I would have to say I'm more of a pessimist. But my current visits to a therapist should hopefully improve the situation in time.

Everything is gonna be a-OK, I'm hopelessly optimistic. Best way to keep yourself happy even if the rest of the world is going to hell.

I'd say I'm more of a pessimist. That way if things go bad, I saw it coming but if things go well, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'm pessimistic with some things and optimistic with others things. Unfortunately, I've become more pessimistic with today's entertainment. It stops me from becoming disappointed though.

I'm pretty optimistic. I used to be rather pessimistic but it got pretty tiring and pointless after a while for me. Now I don't make myself illusions but I generally look at the positive things in the world.

I tend to be more pessimistic than optimistic. Eh, what can I say the world is a fart. It's alot easier to just not trust people and assume things are bad until proven otherwise.

My motto has always been, "Expect the worse, hope for the best"

I agree with the first half of that.

If you expect everything to go horribly all the time then then you can accept it as the natural default state of things and therefore not have it affect your mood in the slightest.

I mean what's the point in being upset about things just happening as they will?

I'm a realist, Optimism is the blind expectation of good things, and Pessimism leaves you always expecting seeing, and getting the worst of everything.

Realism, is to live life in the best way you know how, and taking the good with the bad, after all most of life is based around how we perceive things, and if you blind yourself to either end of the scale you end up unprepared to deal with what's ahead.

Life is built out of a set of circumstances, decisions, and outcomes, usually consisting of a stream of diminishing returns, forcing us to work ever harder just to stay on the line between manic overhype, and depressing doldrums.

If you see life in a realistic way, it is then entirely your choice whether you use the knowledge you gain through the survival and adaptation involved in carrying on, to live life in a happier, or sadder context, and you can change that to suit your desires.

I generally prefer to put forward a positive front because I don't want to depress people with the shit they undoubtedly see themselves, and I figure if they feel the desire to use denial as a form of escapism, who am I to change that? And if I'm depressed, and down in the dumps, and I know how to change that(usually I do) and don't, then that's my own damn fault, it's not the worlds fault.

In other words, I prefer to see the world as a passive, yet constantly changing environment, that one should never expect to be good or bad, but one should use one's judgement, experience, and knowledge, to "see" it as one needs to, from situation to situation, adapting to everything that happens.
