In a perfect world, as we gamers continue to play the game series's that made us what we are, The Half-Life fans, the Final Fantasy peeps etc, All on the one console will it really make every Console gamer happy? We all know PC gamers could not really care about what the Console plebs play... but i constantly see people bitching about the one console thing, and as a Xbox 360 user (and PC for the record) i really do not want one console, fair enough ill be spending more money in the long run for a different console but, as humans we have the huge need for competition.

Be serious! Well all love having the ***** fests with friends and/or family about what is the best don't we? We love the arguments, we love one upping each other on our consoles advantages. So i ask you? The Escapist users! If you had your way? What would you choose???

One console. And no i dont like having "***** fests, over the best console" in fact I think most people who post here hate that kind of crap. So don't bring it here.

Either that or one Console with tazer wielding overseers making sure the game developers don't let their standards slip due to lack of competition.

Im not trying to bring the console vs thread sort of stuff, but what i am saying is that no matter how much you hate that stuff, if someone starts the discussion as intelligent gamers with opinions etc you nearly all the time get involved and throw your 2 cents in. Well in my experience you do.

Be careful what you wish for.

The wii is doing much better than the ps3 and the 360, so I wouldn't be too suprised if in the near future, sony and M$ cut their losses and go back to selling TVs and OSes respectively.

IF sony and M$ return to their core business, Nintendo will have a true monopoly on consoles that nobody will do anything about.

After that it would be less quality for more money, because there would be no competion on the console market.

I like the diversity of the consoles. Each one brings something different to the table. If you have universal code, nothing ever gets done differently. If you have different accessories, then make games to use those accessories, not everybody's going to be able to play them, and so now you've pretty much got different consoles again.

Universal code is impossible, as well as anti-evolutionary.

If we had one universal console, then the developer(s) will make the one and only console extremely expensive. We also wouldn't get as high quality games as we do today because there's no one to challenge them to see who can make the better game.

So, if there was only one console, then it would be too expensive, and the games will be shitty.

Two consoles, Since the rivalry will force them to go better but still at the same price, if it was one, Then we'd be screwed by half arsed consoles and games and it being even more expensive.

Competition leads to innovation and price drops. This is a good thing for everyone (except maybe the game companies who want to spoon feed us sequels at ridiculous prices...).

Competition leads to more innovation, so you are going to get better more advanced consoles in a "multi-console" system.
However in a "single console" system, its more easier for gamers- less bitching, no fanboy trolls, and will make playing online beter- rather than just play with your freinds who have the same console as you, you can play with all your freinds who are gamers.

So, the multi-console system is better for technology and the economy, whereas the single console system is better for individual gamers. (nb- gamres do obviously benifit from technoligcal improvement, however i se more benifits for gamrs in the single console system)

I wonder if there is some middle ground?

In a perfect world, there would be competition, because it's healthy. In a perfect world, all the petty squabbles and childish flamewars would be replaced with mature and constructive arguments.
