I never pirate, I'm morally obligated not to and it's also financial support for those who created the game. I enjoy their product, I pay them for their efforts and for them to do it again, but bigger and better; but there's a flip side to this coin...

I was going to buy Bulletstorm or NFS:HP for my brothers birthday (next monday); I though a £10 ($15) seemed fit as I'm a student, but only the pre-owned copies are that much. New copies are much more. Fuck it, I said, I'm not buying it for that much and if I buy second hand he isn't going to get the "additional" multiplayer that's advertised on the fucking box as standard.
I wouldn't have pre-ordered a new copy of Gears of War 3, Mass Effect 3 or Halo Reach, nor would I have bought Halo 3, ME2, Gears 2 etc. NEW had I not have bought their precursors second hand. THAT'S A DAMN FACT. I would have bought them NEW if the new copies cost as much as the second hand, or maybe £2-3 more for the privilege of it being an unopened copy. But no, they had all had been out for nearly a year and were still nowhere near the £10 I though was worth the risk of buying a new IP when money's tight.

Drop the prices sooner and by more, publishers, and you won't have so much consumer opposition or competition with the used market.
I'll even buy more games sooner, when their prices are higher, once I know the pay off's good with that series; but I am not paying £30-40 ($60) for a game I have no certainty about, nor am I paying anything more than £15 ($20) for a 1 year old game. This is not a certification for you to shovel out successful games for extortionate prices each and every year, I am a smart consumer and I just won't buy them again until they're worth my money.
Quote last paragraph for truth, anybody? Because that's the general vibe I'm getting from other second-hand gamers as well.
