Hello again fellow escapists.

I come to you today with a poll. The question is whether or not the Indie scene is exploding. I ask the question because I alone can not find the answer. I feel as if the only reason I think its exploding is that it has become more visible to me as of late. For the past couple of months I have been going out of my way to look for and at Indie games.

So is the Indie scene really exploding as of late? And if it is, what should publishers and developers take out of this recent development? Are we as gamers evolving to a new pedigree? I think the topic is quite interesting and ripe for discussion! As Armok the blood god would say "STRIKE THE EARTH!"

Edit: Exploding seems like a loaded word in hindsight... What I meant to say was "Growing Rapidly".

I wouldn't say so much 'exploding', but rather with mediums such as xbl marketplace, the same amount of indie games as have been created in the past are getting more exposure. In my opinion and experience, at least.

Not sure if that makes syntaxical sense. I'm tired.

EDIT: Yay for madeup words.

I'd say developers are becoming more aware of the promise of indie games and are getting them out into the limelight with more regularity. If that's "exploding" then I guess it is.

I doubt it. Digital distribution is just making it more viable to actually distribute the games, since it can now be done on every console and not just computers (homebrew-compatible hardware notwithstanding). It's been around just as long, if not longer than, using the video game market as a viable source of income.

Its also possible that indie games are riding on the casual games wave. Simple puzzle platformers like Braid would be the natural next step up for someone that likes say, Peggle or Plants vs Zombies (maybe).

I feel myself that yes it is growing very rapidly. There are a lot of great Indie games out there. Now with digital distribution as someone commented, they seem to be selling as well.

I hope that triple A developers take note and maybe assign 1-3 people with creating some good Indie games. Or learn that graphics are not the end all be all. I respect people who say that graphics are important to them, however at the end of the day, I would say "it's the game play stupid".
