How do I make these go away? I signed up to see if that would work, but it didn't
I truly do not care about whatever the adverts are trying to sell me. I'm here to watch videos, and these adverts are getting in the way of my enjoyment of the Escapist's fine content.
I'd be okay with them if they weren't so obnoxiously intrusive.

Why was strum4h banned for that post? Just out of curiosity? Ad-blockers can be valuable tools when faced with persistent pestering ads on many websites. I obviously disable them on websites I support, but still, many of those in video ads on websites like youtube are intrusive and disruptive to my viewing experience.
I agree with the OP though, the opening of the video in an ad frame I am okay with, but the popups during the videos are pushing it.
I would suggest displaying ads when the video is paused instead, that way the ads are viewed but do not detract from the viewing experience.

Pretty much what everyone has said so far, the ad's are a small price to pay for watching all the stuff here. You want them to go away, join the Publisher's Club. The only ad I wish they would get rid of are those frakking slim jim ad's, those are the worst.

What are these Inskin Roll over adverts? I have Ad Block plus, but after the fiasco that happened a few months back, and seeing the sense of allowing the ads on this site, as I am here multiple times a day, I turned it off for The Escapist (I also turned it of for some of my other favorite sites a well thanks to here).

No, I have NoScript installed, but again, I have Themis and the Escapist unblocked. There are two, that I do not though. They are quantserve.com and legolas-media.com, as I have no idea what the hell they are.

That's half the reason I use no script, so sites I don't know cannot run things in Firefox. Oh, and last winter, there was some sort of flash that the Escapist had running here that would constantly crash Firefox, over and over, every time I visited here, until I blocked one of the addresses in NoScript, and then everything was right as rain. I unblocked it again once that flash or whatever was removed.

EDIT: Oh wait, are they those ads, like for DDO that play before the videos? If so, they're not so bad. Except that one time where a video kept shagging up and crashing, so I had to see the ad over and over each time. But yeah, they a small price to pay for all The Escapist has to offer here.

The reason the Escapist Magazine has such great videos is because people pay money to put those ads on the site (or in my case I paid $20 not to have ads for a year). It is the same as TV ads paying for TV shows. The Internet is finally getting to the point where websites can actually make a living off of the content they provide and it is a good thing. Ads mean higher quality videos, better production values, ect.

What I am saying is Grow up, and stop whining.

Join the Publisher's Club for ten bucks. Ads go away.

The ads are there for a reason, you know. If they weren't, your "fine videos" would vanish. Maintain a big picture.

I am so glad I subscribed. If I hadn't, I probably would've stopped coming here a while ago out of sheer annoyance.

Looks like Escapist agrees - he's only got probation. But still, probation for talking about adbock? Seriously? Discussing a common browser extension gets you temp-banned? What about if you use a modified hosts file to block ads? Or NoScript? Or any other of the myriad ways of hampering in-your-face advertising? Is that going to get me temp-banned? I also use anti-virus software and a firewall - shock horror!

You can see their point, though, they gotta make money. Without ads there would BE no Escapist, and while it seems harsh to modwrath someone who mentions it, honestly it is their call. They own this particular series of tubes, everything we do here is theirs. Even our immortal souls (probably, I can't remember all of the small print in the terms and conditions).

Also I hope you don't get wrath'd for your post, it would be pretty unfair
