I think it's a pretty good idea., OP, most people though are seeing it as a 'RealID' problem. not even bothering to read past the part where it says that an OnlineID is in no way a person's real life name or ID.

Thanks for reading the whole post, I got that feeling, too. A lot of these posts sounded like snap judgements that really didn't understand the concept.

If someone doesn't agree that's fine, but it was funny how many people accused me of being gestapo.

Think about it, it makes your username not just known on one forum but on all other forums you post on. it doesn't really apply to me because I like many many other people already use the same username on every forum I visit.

Think about how ID theft works and why they are successful. I think there is no foolproof way to safeguard your 'RealID'. How can it NOT be tied to you in some real life way? Atleast a birthday right? To see if you are legal to be on some sites. So you think phishing, scams, personal relationships wouldn't effect a 'realID' theft too? Then the legal battle won't be just this person caused another person to die by cyber-bullying because he is claiming he wasn't behind his own user ID. So then aren't we back at square one?
