I usually tend not to care but on this forum I came in contact with the term "necroing" with regards to commenting on an old thread. And old can range from anywhere between two weeks and two years. To me this was really odd since you get bashed for creating a thread on something that's been done before, but it's also not advisable to post in the old thread... I even found this vBulleting addon called Thread Necromancer [http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=185920] with the sole purpose of "allowing you to add or substract points from users points if they posted on an old thread."

I don't really care, but if I see a text with some letter combination uknown to me, I usually check it, if it seems important.

About as much as I keep up with modern slang, which is to say, not at all.
Because I prefer not to sound profoundly retarded.
Good boy Max. Doggy want a bone? Yes he does!
In all seriousness though, I hate having friends who ARE intelligent, but use chat-speak. It really annoys me. See this example:

U NO DA STORY LOLZ

This guy gets A* level English scores...HOW?!

EDIT: If we're referring to leet-speak as it is called...eugh.

I tend not to keep up with it, but you must know thine enemy. And my enemies are those who disrespect the English language. This would apply to other languages as well if I was well versed enough to understand all of their sayings (IE "pulling your leg").

Internet speak pisses me off generally. It pisses me off that its getting into the real world. I exploded and nearly injured a 'mate' when he went "lolz, he pwned you" about a year ago during a soccer (sorry, we call it football in Australia now as well) game. Have never regretted it.

I never 'try' to keep up with it.

I just end up keeping up with it. Does this make me a bad person?

It's not a language, it's an attempt at being flashy, but in turn just looks stupid. Who ever thought leet was a good idea is an idiot. And that's right. I spelled it out. Thats because I'm rational, and realize that if it's supposed to be some sort of code, it was the simplest fucking code to break ever.

There are a few phrases that, sometimes, I find indispensable. Like FTW, WTF, and EFG*. But other than that theres not really much to keep track of, I mean, it's not like this stuff changes that often.

*Note: Thats justs for the lulz.

It's not that I keep up with it, it's that it keeps up with me, whether I like it or not.

Granted, my frequent perusal of sites like Encyclopaedia Dramatica might have something to do with this, but...

Not really, I use the basic things like "lol" and "tbh" for time saving on MSN, but beyond that it's all inevitably pointless and often takes longer to write out, e.g. 1337. By the by, what the hell does L or :L mean, it doesn't look like any particular expression. So have people suddenly decided "lol" takes too long and that L is more appropriate or am I off by a long shot? xD

I speak English, not internet.

Besides, it's so confusing that I can't even make sense of it.
you say that, yet you speak english? seriously, the internet gets its language from english!
no, the internet mugs English in a dark alley and breaks it's verbs whilst running away.

Well, I know enough. Once in a while I come across an acronym I just can't figure out, but usually I understand it pretty well. When writing of forums I tend to write proper English, however, I only use abbreviations in IM and text messages.
