So a car license it shows you have a certain skill at driving and helps protect you and others from injuries and death. Do you think the Internet needs a license to show you have a certain level of skill and knowledge to help protect you and other?

A license could help protect minors by restricting access to porn etc or ensure people actually know how to spot frauds etc

So do you think an Internet licence would be a good idea or not? What should it be aimed to protect or teach? What would the test involve?

I think the test should only ensure that users have a minimal knowledge of the Internet so they won't give their bank details to Nigerians. The test would just be some random multiple choice questions one a year or so and can be retook o er and over till you pass. Automatic pass if you aren't using Internet explorer.

No, because that would mean someone could, for any reason under the sun, revoke usage of the internet, even if it's a non-idiot. That kind of power, I will not allow.

Or, how about we all learn how to take care of ourselves and not turn this into a nanny state?

Nah. The best thing about the Internet is that it's designed to essentially be a winter wonderland where anything is possible for anyone. Restricting its usage would be kinda lame.

So let's get rid of car licenses gun license quality control etc etc too? How does an Internet license make it a nanny state and every other license doesn't?

That's a good point, because the internet is just as dangerous as a 3000 pound vehicle that can go 150 miles per hour or a firearm that is literally designed to kill things.

Nope. For one thing, we don't want to give the government more money making scheme ideas, and for another, as much as we detest idiots on our internetz, the best promise of the internet is freedom of speech and expression for all, and that includes morons.
