As most of us know, the internet is home to a variety of different breeds. There are the spammers, the "First" group, the constant refreshers, and gods, who are known to forum users as "Mods." And then there are 4-chan users, but his is not the time or the place for that. However, in the middle of all this nonsense, there are an elite group of vigil antis, known by the pubic as "Internet Nazis"!

The worst, and most popular types of these beings are the grammar nazis. They prowl every forum imaginable, looking for the most unnoticable spelling or gramatical error. When they find it, they attack. They don't even hesitate, destroying the poster with mean words and insults to their intelligence. They may not let up until the poster either changes their post or praises the Grammar Nazi with infinite praise. Sickening, isn't it?

Of course, there are other types as well, and even the Escapist is not immune to these beings, except they come in the form of "Search Bar" Nazis, who require you to use a search bar, even if our thread doesn't affect them in any way what-so-ever.

So, with that said, what do YOU think?

It gets annoying. Even politely pointing out a mistake can come across as condescending. What irks me the most are the people that wont contribute in any way to the thread, and just show up to point out that its been done before or that the OP is in some way inferior to the Nazi.

This is also a good point. They rarely contribute to the forum they are posting in. They "correct" the mistake and then leave, feeling much better about themselves.

I actually like them, because they help point out the retards who arent even trying to use proper grammar, such as "da song rulz, all hatrs u fck of!!!" <- Actual quote from Youtube (suprise, right?).

But i may be optimistic, hoping that some of them might actually change into using English because of the grammar-nazi's, but then again, i may just be dreaming.

They are beneath me and I just ignore them... usually. Unless they are completely out of line or just looking for a fight, then I unleash my internet insults of fury! I am a firm believer that internet nazis are that way because they fail IRL, and probably nobody loves them.

Why should I care? I try to use the English language as best as I can, and they point out errors I make. That is helpful, in my opinion.
[EDIT]On further thought, I mean the kind ones. The ones that lash out because your keyboard is a horrible piece of trash deserve to die.[/EDIT]

Besides, it's not like I've done anything to earn anyone's scorn....... With justification of it.

Yeah I understand exactly why grammar nazis exist(no I didn't capitilizes nazis, deal with it). I myself often feel the need to slap somone soundly accross the face for their lacke of grammar and or spelling. That being said I don't pay rediuclous amount of attention to it myself, my spelling is pretty good but if I don't know how to spell something I'm not gonna look it up just so my posts are perfect and I do sometimes ruch through posts, like this one so the grammar is rather crappy but hey I see where they're coming from is all.

You are mistaking the meaning of grammar nazi with regular level intelligence.

A grammar Nazi would come along to a perfectly normal post such as this and pick out all the flaws in it just to be a dick.

I dislike that people who do something as trivial as correct another person's grammar are referred to as Nazis.

There's not problem with pointing out a person' grammar mistake. But when they get into flaming the person because of said mistake, then I hate them.

You know you spelled rush wrong, right? Just kidding. Good points though. However, it is easier to ignore than to correct.

Sometimes I see a really horrible piece of writing and feel the need to comment because it bugs the heck out of me, but I try to always say something relevant to the thread as well. Also, I like to split infinitives.

I think you should state the difference between internet Nazis, like these ones [http://www.kukluxklan.bz/], and the grammatical Nazis.

Anyway, I'm not that great when it comes to grammar and spelling, but I'd like to improve myself: when I see a post that's indecipherable it kinda gets on my nerves, and so I try to distance myself from that.

That aside, all I'd really life is for posts to be readable, I make minor errors in relation to things like colons, semi-colons, and ellipses all the time so it's not the worse thing in the world.

Im with this man, specially about your lack of spelling...

Anywho, they may be evil but they have their uses. Without them some forums would disintergrate into 4chan like chaos and so on and so forth. I honestly dont really care if i make a mistake and someone points it out i gladly tip my hat and say thanks. Context is also a big issue, if im obviously making a joke and you come around correcting things or being too serious that can be a littel annoying. For the most part though, i say heil to the grammar and other types of nazis on the net...ok not all of them for obvious reasons.
Yes, but keeping from chaos is what MODERATORS are for.

See what I mean? Speeding through the post made me hit c instead of s. I agree it is easier to ignore than to correct but sometimes even I can't resist the urge to correct. I blame english teachers I guess XD.

I don't like people that focus on the stupid things on forums! I like to keep my grammar neat but I won't verbally assault someone if there grammar isn't perfect because I wouldn't like it if they did it to me it would just get annoying!

I saw a few grammatical and spelling errors in the main body of your post. I'm going to go ahead and assume that was done to be ironic and make a statement.

While the methods of the Grammar Nazi might be looked down upon, you cannot argue with their effects. Some people will go out of their way to avoid making spelling or grammar errors, simply to avoid the wrath of the aforementioned Grammar Nazis. Personally, I agree with the message that they are trying to get across. I would much rather read something that had perfect grammar than something that looked like it was written by a five-year-old.

No the moderators are for enforcing the specific rules set down by their employers and what have you. This community has taken it upon itself to keep decent spelling, grammar, minimizing repeat threads, and less pointless threads their own priority. Thats the way it was when i got here and it seems like thats the way its been for a long time. Its not like were asking a lot, just follow along with some simple common courtesy things.
Agreed. Although some grammar correctors can come along as condescending, it is no means for you to get angry at them and call them nazis. Just accept their grammar advice, it is there for a reason.
