I have no interest in getting it, along with any of their underpowered, overpriced, glorified paper weights...errr...I mean Macs.
The iPad will still sell like hotcakes since Apple has a loyal fan base of highly misguided people.

I like it because:
1. It would make an awesome eBook reader.
2. It would make an awesome tablet.
3. It would make an awesome on-the-go device for working, since I'm always writing and such.

Feel free to burn me as an Apple fanboy.

I just don't see the point of the iPad - I am not sure what it is supposed to bring to users. It does not seem to do much that that the iPhone can't do (except...it doesn't have a camera and you can't make calls on it). Do Apple intend people to walk around in the street with it tucked under one arm? I don't get it.

OK you can read books on it, like the Kindle, but I don't see the point of that either. I would sooner buy actual books - you can get a lot more for your money and are not distressed to drop your book, have it stolen or leave it on a train. Now for someone like my Mum who has dodgy vision the ability to make a much larger font is kind of helpful, but I just don't see the point for every one else.

I understand that the iPad has a lot of things missing - Flash for example. Or a USB socket (hooray! spend extra cash buying the bespoke docking station so that you can attach USB peripherals).

I just don't see the point in it - it does less than laptops although Apple thinks that it will replace them...

Because if you like things Apple makes you're a mindless fanboy but if you unconditionally hate every product the company makes (of whom I doubt you have actually used any) you're a "nice guy?"

I wouldn't want it. A laptop does the same stuff and more. Sure, a laptop costs more, but at least it's worth the money to buy one.

I don't really care for Apple products... Even my iPod 5th Generation that I still use to this day is running on Rockbox, not Apple's terrible iPod operating system. Apple is just so restricting. And the iPad seems like an April Fools joke, except it's not. Seriously.. It's a giant iPod touch! Why not just buy a slick netbook, where you can do anything you can on a normal computer (at least things not too resource-hungry), for $300 instead of this, where you can ... listen to music, browse the internet one tab at a time, and only have one task open at a time, for $700?? It's a step backwards.

I see no reason to get it, as I see barely any reason to get Apple stuff in general. I'm sure they're great products, that they do what they're meant to be rather well. And really, they look pretty damn good.

But for less than half the price I can get, say an MP3 player from Creative which is, quality-wise, pretty much as good as an iPod. Why on earth would I, someone with a limited budget, want to get an iPod then? Same counts for the iPhone, same counts for MacBooks and Macs.

I don't doubt that they're good products, but Apple's pricing combined with their horrible DRM-like practices, I see no reason to go for Apple.

But the iPad is even worse. What am I supposed to do with that thing? What's the point of it? I've got a relatively light-weight laptop, which makes for a massively better workstation than an iPad with neigh the same mobility.

But again, you can get devices who can do all that and way more for a comparable or even cheaper price. So why would I want an iPad?

As for it making an awesome eBook reader, I'm not sure, I'd go for the e-ink technology of the Kindle myself as that doesn't strain my eyes that much as a more conventional screen. But then again that may differ for for other people. But do I really want to put down 500 (up to 830) bucks for an eBook reader? The Kindle is just 260 bucks.

I don't get the appeal. If I want to read an ebook, I'll get a kindle because who wants to read a novel on a backlit screen? And if I want a netbook, I want one with a keyboard. Unless it's designed for something else completely, I don't know who this product is supposed to be for.

The big deal is that it is made by Apple. Apparently that's enough of a selling point to make it a big deal these days.

A friend of mine who has a serious case of tech lust showed me this other product which I actually found more interesting. The Lenovo IdeaPad U1.

I saw a news story on it before it was released where that talked about the huge benefit as an ebook reader (which I would concede), but then showed how when you go to bed you can use it as your nightstand clock? Pretty darn expensive time piece. For $800 I pay someone to read me books for a while.

There are netbooks cheaper than the iPad that can do more stuff. Anyone who buys an iPad despite that reasoning is buying it for the brand name alone, anyone guilty of that doesn't deserve the skin they're in.

I'd be more interested if the higher-end models were more reasonably priced and they had made them multitask-able.Useable beyond the casual "pick up and faff about on it for three or four minutes" aspect. But then, this is Apple we're talking about.

Edit: obvious.

What the hell is the big deal? you need to have an additional computer to actually use it. It has a puny 64 gb hard drive at a cost of $700 for the wifi only and $829 for the 3g one. It has a crappy intel atom processor and no real gpu to speak off. Right now I am running a laptop i bought for $800 that can run 90% of games out there. Also the Ipad os is literally the same as the iphones. SO i just don;t get why anyone would want it. could someone explain this to me, what makes it the quote "god device" as apple is trying to tell me
I'm fine with my iTouch, but if the iPad can double as a standalone sketching tablet, then I may consider buying it, since my old sketchbook is falling apart, and it's annoying to transfer any images to digital, as I have to spend time "cleaning up" the image.

Yes they do. And this one really has a lot of nice features that the iPad doesn't. For one, Flash will work on it. ;)

Same policy as I have with consoles: I'll get one in about a year, after the price goes down a hundred bucks and, in this case, someone makes a "Make Flash work on iPads" app.
