I wanna know what handset the escapist chooses
iPhone or Android
Which is better
I dont want anyone to say "iPhone but only when it is jailbroken" that doesn't count.
I saw that this year the Android OS has sold more handsets than iPhone however here in Australia iPhone is king.
Personally I think iPhone sux, not enough customizable options.
a Jailbroken iPhone is basically and Android with free apps at a higher count.
To iPhone users: Why buy an iPhone and jailbreak it when you can get a Samsung Galaxy which looks the same as the iPhone, cheaper and a bigger brighter less reflective screen.
Seems like a no brainer to me.

EDIT: I am aware that android is not a phone, I have one myself and am aware that it is an OS,
But if I said iPhone VS HTC Desire it would have been an overwhelming victory for iPhone.

I should say to avoid confusion, Android is NOT a phone, but rather an OS for a smart phone. The iPhone is a product that has iOS as its operating system.

I would've said an iPhone earlier, but now Android has won me over.

It's open source, has the same apps you would find in the App Store (the same useful ones I mean), and it's integrated with Google (if you use a lot of Google products). Browser is faster in my experience, though that can be more of a hardware thing.

Android all the way.

So, there was this survey I done a while ago, asking me what kind of phone I had, and one of the options was "android". Now, I'd never heard of the android, so I thought it was a joke, and clicked it.

Just doin' my part to accidentally skew survey results in a misleading way.

My answer is neither. My handset is like 6 years old, at least. It calls people, it texts people, and I'm disinclined to get a replacement, because I'm poor.

I went for the LG GW60.
Touchscreen and keyboard, best of both worlds.

But either apple does it for you, or it doesn't, the fact you are debating it means you should go for Android.

Going with Iphone simply because I'm a blind Apple fan boy... never once seen an Android in action.

I should clarify, touch screen for me is right out.
I like typing without looking, and I need some tactile feedback for that. Raised buttons are the only way you can get that, so I'd never be as fast with a touch screen typing pad. I hate those things.

I thought the same too, but now I'm just as fast on a touch screen (granted I still have to look at it) than I am on a phone with buttons.

It's just another thing you get used to with practice.

Plus, you can't get a new phone, then you can't complain about young people and their new phones.

Gotta prioritize.

I have an old Nokia with a black and white screen, no camera, maybe two games and basic cellphone-features such as sending/receiving text messages, making/receiving calls and beeping at me when I want it to wake me up.

Give me that over a fancy smartphone any day.

STOP TRYING TO TELL ME I'M OLD! I'm hip! I'm happenin'! I'm the youth of today! The very embodiment of zeitgeist! I'm only 23 you bugger!

I just like my phone because it has chunky keys I can text with. Even then, since I keep my nails long, it's not easy to type quickly. New phones would just be nightmarish.

I have a T-Mobile Pulse (which is part of the Android OS range).

As far as I can tell, it's basically a cross between an iPhone and a BlackBerry but much cheaper (less than half price?).

I think the Android OS is excellent, and has less restrictions than the iPhone (it's open source, I mean you can get PSX games running on it!), however the two drawbacks are

1) That BlackBerry phones have BBM, and Android phones have Google Talk as a substitute (both are free messenger services), but you won't find many people on that just yet (everyone's got a bloody BB so everyone's on that).

2) The iPhone has the superior video camera by a good margin. I'm starting to think that's where most of the money went into making the iPhones so expensive. The Pulse's stills camera is very nice, but don't make the mistake of recording a video...

Let me try and find a review for the pulse for you. IMO it's a bargain.

P.S. You don't have to use FUCKING Safari. I swear that thing just haunts me wherever I go...

Neither. Why can't people just enjoy cell phones to call and text people? I consider my flip out full keyboard to be the height of awesomeness. But then people want a full keyboard, internet 24/7, games, music players, youtube, messenger, etc. I've had this phone for 2 years now (my old one's screen popped off because I got it for $30,) and expect to keep it for at least another 3.

Because that's not what he's asking.

But I get what you mean. I had the nokia 3510i for years (I got ridiculed at school but I just laughed it up) and after that I got an N70 as a hand me down (that piece of crap was going downhill from the start, but to be fair it did end up in the washing machine to finish it off).

Moral of the story is, keep a crappy phone, people will take pity on you and give you something just as useful with a few bells and whistles when they get an upgrade.

I just keep my MSN Talk App constantly logged in on my Galaxy S, that way I get free text to anyone logged on, the 3 friends I talk to the most all have smartphones and we all keep MSN logged on 24/7 lol.

Safari is the worst browser ever, iPhone users should get Opera off the app store.
Apparantly in the 2.2 FroYo update of Android it has a new browser which is the worlds lightest/fastest mobile browser.
The only thing I miss on my old iPod touch is Angry Birds, which was just released as a beta and I DL yesterday, and the game Glass Tower 2, which doesnt look like it will be coming to Android any time soon.

I wasn't and am still not willing to put up with Apples's BS when it comes to the Iphone. Great product but not worth all the hassles. I currently have an Android based phone and it's bar far the most kick ass phone I've ever had. A buddy recently ditched his I phone for a Samsung Galaxy S and he's quite happy with it and is glad to out from underneath Apples goofy ass rules.
