I don't think there's anything ironic about celebrating an international holiday. Just because we call it Christmas doesn't mean a whole lot. It's simply an end of year festival for spending time with family. Like any symbol, it only means what you make it mean.

It can mean what you make it mean but it is also a the birth of christ, even if you changed the symbol of gift giving you cant change the day or the religious meaning that christmas has.
