Since when has she been propped up as a feminist icon? She sorta has a bit of notoriety because she's said feminism has too many people just hanging onto it without doing anything to improve themselves or the lives of others anymore. Hell, she's been attacked as being anti-feminist and a TERF because she said MMA wasn't anti-woman and her refusal to fight Fallon Fox.
She's pretty far from being a mainstream feminist icon unless you're talking about a picture of her being on a dartboard.
Also, from what I've seen of her, she's a pretty chill person all around. Big geek, though who isn't anymore in some capacity in our age range? Alot of people are asses inside of the competition, equal parts persona, ego, and just general competitiveness. Hell, even look at E-Sports and you've got a bunch of apeople that aren't genetic freaks that act the same from time to time.
Saw at least one person in this thread saying she was, the video I watched had a couple people refer to her as one, and if you look up "Ronda Rousey feminist" you'll get a mixed bag of results of people saying she is or isn't one.
You might be right about it being part of her persona though, I'm not really big into the MMA or wrestling world or anything like that.
Looking at her transgender comments though isn't exactly endearing me to her more. I mean, they're better than Matt Mitrione's, but she defended his comments. I'm not sure how "He's just a man who wants to beat up women" can just be 'bad phrasing'
The ideal of feminism and equality, sure, but alot of mainstream really doesn't like her(and by mainstream, I'm meaning the crap you see the most of, the teenagers and people who never left high school behind, so possibly not mainstream, but it's always what I see, REALLY trying to not make this into a feminism debate).
And neither am I, I knew wrestling existed, only actually heard about some of the crazy shit like the last few months from a friend on here in a skype group chat. Just general competition gets the trashtalk and personas going. the FGC is built on that kind of thing(like seriously, you've got people that have built themselves into villains and the most bm assholes on stage, but are the kindest people when they're not playing/working), CSGO and anything that's competitive and can be streamed is full of that kind of stuff as a joke at the absolute least.
And to be fair, just looking it up, yeah, shitty comments and all, but Fox spent like 25 years as a dude. The final part of your body to fully develop, generally the brain and for some reason some of the bones in your wrists(I think, please correct me if I'm wrong), are done by 23. Bone density and structure doesn't just disappear at that point, even after therapy. To a point, he has something to be listened to in that part of the shittiness. Hell, I think Rousey even said she didn't think there would be anything unfair about fighting someone that started the therapy before puberty and case-by-case otherwise. Of which Fox is a no for reasons other than trans-ient nature(haha bad puns), apparently she's not as good at fighting as she is at pulling her trans card, just going by comments surrounding that little snafu.
I really don't want to start a trans debate here either, so I think I'll just leave it at that.
