I am not but when I joined the Escapist I was actually on a long break from gaming (Between PS2 and PS3), mainly because I wanted to get my A-levels over with before I got one.
They let you change your name twice?!
Awesome!

Even if you're no longer a-floppin a cox [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cox%27s_Orange_Pippin] and you have no idea who I am, I'm still immensely pleased that you no longer have that Wahful name.
C wat I did thar?

OT: Actually, no, I wouldn't consider myself a gamer, but I certainly play games and enjoy them. It's fun.

Was a gamer, now I'm not. I still play games, but it's more to fill time now than because it's what I really want to be doing at any given time.

Why does gaming have a title that comes along with it anyway?

People who watch movies aren't called Movie-ers. People who read books aren't called Bookers. etc. :S

See what I mean? It makes no sense. How can you play and enjoy games and not be a gamer? There really doesn't seem to be a clear definition of the word so I'm just not going to use it. :/

Yes, I am surprised 8 people said no... I thought ZP, game reviews, brought almost everyone here... Oh well, to be young and innocent... and ignorant :(

Well as of late I've begun to wonder if being a gamer is really a condition to be desired, but yes I still consider myself one.
I poked my nose into the controversial opinions thread and never in my life have I been more ashamed to be a gamer. Just the number of people on this site that were condoning certain paraphilias just... I thought this place was so cool... Maybe I'm too naive, but I'd hoped there were none of that kind here.

OT: it's funny how a few years ago so few people played games, but nowadays it's harder to find someone who's not played a game.
There are MANY MANY members here... and it is always the controversial opinions that get noticed, so I'm afraid you will get that on any forum halfway big enough to get mentioned by the BBC :p

I think that literally everyone in my circle of friends has at least one gaming platform actually :p

Yea, i wish i was still floppin-a-cox

The first change was a mandatory, people where offended at my blantant floppin' of the cox and mods politely told me that it needed changed.

Then i began to hate that name and decided to just Censor my oringal, I mean whats wrong with flopping a sock around?

It's still disconcerting and repulsive to know that sort is among us.

I know, but opinions and what someone would actually do given the opportunity are very different. It is also a kind of "end justifies means" logic, which is what many opinions are based on, I would by lying if I said I didn't have some thoughts on making the world better, but in a... unsavoury manner.

And there will always be that "sort", no matter where you go, it is an unfortunate fact of this crazy thing called life :( You will always find someone who you oppose... if you don't then you have no opinions of your own.

Nerd is a derogatory term, kind of used by a lot of people the same way they use "******".

Gamer doesn't have this connotation, thankfully, so I don't mind calling myself a gamer, but I do mind calling myself a "Nerd"
Actually, the definition of nerd is one who enjoys intellectual pursuits. The average person just uses it to insult someone.
Maybe, but it's really the average person's usage that really matters. The definition of the word "*****" is a female dog, but...

Well, the people I refer to were the kind that suggest being attracted to certain... young people is okay. I've zero doubt what their internet history would look like or what they've done. People with murderous ideals or ideas about eugenics and the such (like you hinted at) I can deal with. Fine. You wanna euthanize the handicapped (as one example)? I think you're deluded, but whatever. You aint gonna do it, lol. People who go on about other people's sexuality, calling them sluts and the such (clearly out of jealousy, lol) I can ignore. No problem. Whatever. People who talk about it being okay to or they themselves admitting to liking... young individuals, just make me physically sick. The thought that they exist is horrible enough. The knowledge that they are here is worse, searching the net, alone with their thoughts... Yeah... These people need to be gone.

Hmm... you do realise that biologically they normally can't help it? And that it in no way affects how good a person they are so long as they don't act on it.[footnote]Hence governments trying to enact punishment laws for thought crime in any way, shape or form is so strongly opposed. You have no choice in these crimes, you simply "are" a criminal.[/footnote] A person could be literally incapable of not thinking evil and horrific thoughts, yet so long as they know it is wrong, and would never act on it, I am fine, they are fine and society is fine.

Yes, I do support eugenics, some people should not have children for the child's sake. That is my horrific opinion, and I would say your horrific opinion is that uncontrollable thought deserves them to be... as you said: gone.

You haven't been here long, but I already respect you from what I have seen. That said though, thoughts do not make a man, nor do they break him. Actions and words are what do those.

Oh of course. Thought crime is just insane. A victimless crime if there ever was one. My problem is with those who in any way act on it and then defend it, going so far as to say it's "okay" or "victimless". That's why I added the part about their internet history. Those people need to be gone.

As for the eugenics: well, you're welcome to your opinion.

Aah, from your first post you implied that the attraction alone was part of the crime, but that makes more sense now. Although you would be hard pressed to find an Escapist who had acted on it, so you really wouldn't need to worry about actual offenders on this site, only thought criminals :p

It's an opinion that comes from seeing my country steadily burying itself in crap partly because people who cannot afford it have children. And uneducated people living in the past who refuse to see the flaws of the current... regime. They spread ignorance, poverty and suffering by having children they can't help, can't feed and can't educate.

Illegal pornography has a large market. I don't doubt for a second they've crawled into this part of the net and set up nest.

And I really can't talk about it anymore. I'll either be sick or end up fetching a weapon.

Your reason for wanting eugenics is perhaps (in my opinion) right enough, but your method of execution is the problem. I'd prefer to educate and help the problem, rather than murder or remove basic human rights from otherwise innocent people.

Two wrongs don't make a right, etc.

I highly doubt many active posters are involved in it though, generally the people who are are degenerate enough that they would avoid This site as a whole. You will not easily ever find someone who acted on said deviances here, so don't worry all that much about it.

I don't think I mentioned murder in my idea... Just prevention. There are not the resources to educate 5 children per family here. In order to educate the population, the uneducated must avoid having many children, and yes the people are otherwise innocent, but they KNOW that they cannot feed their children or educate them, but they wish to have daughters to sell for labola, children to help them in old age, et cetera, they don't care how much suffering they cause for the children, many of which don't even survive, they want their legacy and the perks they can get with many children.

I agree, education is the best solution, but only after you stop it from becoming an uphill battle.

And I understand that everyone has a topic that will really shake them, but being unable to talk about it without feeling... well, read your second sentence, may not be healthy.

Not as much, really. I play a lot of old games on emulators, but I really only buy new games 2-3 times a year. The last new game I bought was Fable III, not counting the Neverwinter Nights 2 expansion I bought new at Big Lots for $1. I did buy the Fallout 3 Game of the Year PC set with all the expansions, but that's not really all that new. And I have a shit ton of problems with it crashing my PC.

For some reason I have really been loosing interest in gaming since my sophomore year of college. I still play games but it doesn't give the same satisfaction as it did since my first console till team fortress classic (weird spot to end my satisfaction, huh?)

I still enjoy keeping up with the news of gaming and what the companies and indie people are doing, but playing games just seems to be getting in the way of what I want to do. I will always have a beefy PC and 1 or 2 current gen consoles, but I don't think I'll be putting in the hours like I used to put in.
im the same as you, like weirdly the same
