Nope, you can make fun of anything you want. If anyone comes after you legally, they are in the wrong.

Now if you take it too far, say telling a rape joke to a parent who recently found out the whereabouts of their kidnapped child. Raped and killed. Don't be surprised when they knock your teeth down your throat.

It's just about who you're with for example when we have LANs we'll spend all night and the early hours of the morning telling one another in extreme amounts of detail how we're going to mutilate, kill and desecrate their corpse while raping their closest friends and relatives. However this isn't the sort of joke I'd tell my mother so it's all about context and your audience.

Some topics might be practically exempt in certain instances (i.e. the times when it would be so inappropriate it no longer evokes any form of amusement[footnote]And if a joke that was meant to be funny isn't, am I at all obliged to call it humor?[/footnote]), but in the long run, I don't think anything is truly exempt. There's going to be some kind of joke about every touchy subject told when and where it'll probably get a laugh.

No. Also, I already saw this in some rape thread not too long ago. You can make a joke about anything but you're responsible for possible offensive consequences. Saying 'it was just a joke' is not an excuse and is not a shield. If your joke offends, you offended and you are responsible because you made the joke.

Well, I'd say recent tragedies should be taken seriously, but nothing should be sacred. A lot of people deal with grief by joking about it and I do this myself. Holocaust tend to be tasteless and bad, but done right it can work.

The worse the tragedy or misery behind a subject the harder it is to joke about it and it's more likely to be considered offensive. In short what I have to say on the matter is what this guy said:

I want to say yes, but I can't think of any good jokes that have to do with the twin towers going down, rape, or child molestation... which is rape, but not women rape thats a big deal right now.

No. Of course, you should still mind who you tell your jokes to, because there's no point in even telling a joke to someone more likely to be offended than to laugh. Just don't be a dick about it.

No and I'll give an example of stepping over the line twice to prove it. A Chessboard, one side is entirely made of planes, the other has the part of king and queen played by the World Trade Center. First thought "oh that is bad" followed by "that's brilliant."

I agree. Maybe it could be like a sub-section of rule 34. Rule 34 B: If it exist, it will be ridiculed.

Seriously though, this is the internet. There is always at least one person on here that will not like something and make fun of it.

As long as everything is made jokes about, it's fine. Just gunning for one thing with jokes, but not doing other one's because it's not appropriate, isn't fair. And isn't right.

That's why I like comidians like Frankie Boyle, he hates EVERYONE. Everything. He's not racist, he hates everything equally. Admittedly he does make some jokes a little too soon, sometimes you just shouldn't... but still...
