COD:WaW mocked WWII by suggesting that Japanese banzai chargers had brains the size of peas.

I just got my Beta key to BF:H, so I'll play it before I answer.
How did it suggest that they had brains the size of peas.....? :S
Because they run straight past you to get to your teammates (if this teammate happens to be a main character they will just stab them, let them get up, stab them again etc) or vice versa.
Thats just bad AI, it happens to all units in that game, you've taken it way out of proportion.

Oh, God. Of all the things that crazy people have taken offense to, I'll admit that this is one thing I'm surprised at. It's a game people! It's not claiming to be an accurate representation of WW2! It's not even claiming to be WW2 at all! I forget what they call the factions, but they aren't the Allies vs. the Axis. It's just some made up, cartoony, video game war based on the weapons of WW2.

People need to calm the fuck down and develop some common sense.

A game that's mocking the people who served and lost their lives to it?

This is the place I would put 3 lines of "ololol....".

I mean, are the graphics the only reason?

I personally see it more as a parody of Word War II video games than the actual war itself. Wolfenstein 3D on the other hand can certainly be interpreted as a mockery of the war.
Pretty much what Soup here said.

I've never really thought about it from that angle but I suppose yeah they kind of are... Not purposefully mind you, but it is kind of disrespectful to turn something so horrible into a game, but it's not really any different from medal of honor/call of duty, which do basically the same thing. The whole cartoony aspect shouldn't really come into play, the bigger issue here is turning something so horrible into entertainment, no matter what kind of form that entertainment takes
So true, it makes you wonder if the veterans from WWII feel appreciated at all

And if it does? If we can't joke about it, how are we ever supposed to talk about it seriously?

Any game can be argued as making a mockery of something else, and except for maybe Zombies and Aliens someone can be offended by almost anything you produce. Ground the game in reality or real events, and expect some annoyed responses due to "The information age". Game companies have simply been castrated so have started to care about things they shouldn't.

As far as World War II games go, well we've already had fantasy recreations of it with Vampires and such in video games (Bloodrayne, Operation Darkness), why not a cartoony take?

EA was just trying to make the game a fun standout from the common shooters of today. They are in no way, shape or form trying to make fun of veterans, just trying to set themselves apart from the crowd (Even though TF2 got there first).
