For a long time I have had a theory that Capcom was better at making The Legend of Zelda than Nintendo is.
Capcom gave us Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and Minish Cap after all. I would consider those to be the best Zelda games.
However, recently I watched a friend play Okami, and I now believe my theory is completely correct.
Your take?

I'd say yes, but the oracle games were just link's awakening redone, much in the same vein as majora's mask was to ocarina of time. Since they were so similar with just a few added mechanics (although neat) I don't think it constitutes a good foundation to call them better than other zelda games.

Also the ratio of games is a bit...uh..one sided. So personally I find it difficult to narrow it down in a way that makes Capcom stand out.

The capcom zeldas were also only on handhelds, so technical limitations abound and all.

Granted I loved the hell out of Minish Cap. As far as handheld zeldas go it is my favorite. (I haven't played the DS ones yet..)

However Nintendo still developed Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Link to the Past, etc. Which I find to be multitudes better than Minish Cap.

I think it's safe to say, at least to me, that no, Capcom does not make better zelda games than nintendo.

EDIT: I think Capcom could make a better zelda game than nintendo, if nintendo let them make a fully fledged console game for it. If not better, than something different and interesting. At the very least, Zelda would be in good hands imo.

Well they can certainly make a better Zelda game... and then call it Okami.
You know another Zelda-ish game? Beyond Good & Evil! What happened with that sequel?

Capcom killed Clover Studio's(turned into platinum games) who did Okami.
Nintendo also does a good bit of the work on those zelda games ,so no.

Ubisoft evidently doesn't want to release it for current-gen consoles. That's the story at least.

OT: Yeah, Okami was awesome. Everyone should play it. Even if they don't think they'd like it.

It'll prove them wrong.

Play Okami.

I don't think I really need to tell you guys what I think :D

I just hope that someone, somewhere, is planning on funding a sequel (a proper sequel, not that crap handheld game), with Platinum games (a lot of which used to work at Clover).

I haven't played Okami, and haven't exactly been enchanted by any of what I've played in the Zelda franchise.

But I love Darksiders, which apparently has Zelda in its DNA, so I'd say Vigil is better at making Zelda than Nintendo.

I voted "Different, not better". But then I remember that's the old Capcom. The Capcom that loved games and didn't cancel every good game they announce (I'm looking at the Megaman games Capcom).
Remember that Clover doesn't exist anymore.
Some of them are at Platinum, some somewhere else.

So my real answer would actually be "no".

I just wish Nintendo would get some guys from Vigil and Platinum to work on the new Zelda game. I still want it to be Zelda, but the creative input from those 2 studios would be great. I've also read a rumor that the guy who did the Darksiders art is currently working with Retro on their new game, tho that was posted on 4chan. It had a link but I doubt I will find it.

With how much I've hated or been merely neutral on recent Zelda titles, I think yeah, Capcom did it better. Though if you compare the age that Capcom made those games with the same time frame that of Nintendo, they were roughly equal. I loved Zelda all the way up to TP, and the DS games weren't bad. They weren't that good either.

I didn't like Oracle of Ages much, but liked Oracle of Seasons. The ring system was cool and also a bit of a chore, and I wonder what might have been if they had actually pulled off the third game they had planned.

Minish Cap I also didn't like. A giant Slime was used as a boss 2 times and neither was that thrilling. Also, to get the final piece of heart you need to have already beaten the game so you can complete the figurine collection. Why would you even need it at that point? And who thought it would be fun to put in that vending machine in the first place? I'll admit it was slightly less of a pain than getting all the photos in Wind Waker, but I still prefer Wind Waker. And I don't consider Wind Waker to be that great to begin with.

My favorite Zelda games are Majora's Mask, Link's Awakening, and A Link to the Past.

Tier 2 would be Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Oracle of Seasons, Spirit Tracks, and Skyward Sword

Tier 3 is Phantom Hourglass, Twilight Princess, Oracle of Ages, and Wind Waker

Tier 4 is Ocarina of Time, Four Sword Adventures, and Minish Cap. Plus anything I left out because there are a lot of games in the series.

To those that cry foul at where I put Ocarina: At one point I liked OoT, but I just burned myself out on it and loved MM waaaaaay more and have never wanted to go back to it since.

I played Okami once, and it was beautiful and surprisingly lengthy. I think I got every side thing except for ONE bead from the final stone thingy where you need to poke it in the precise spots in the precise order in like 4 seconds. I even had a friend help with the memorizing of the sequences and we failed over and over v_v

So no, I don't think Capcom makes better Zelda games, but Nintendo isn't exactly knocking them out of the park either.

The best Zelda games I've played were fan made quests on Zelda Classic, primarily by DarkFlameWolf. If I wasn't 87% sure that Zelda Classic and/or some of the quests I downloaded directly killed the pc I had at the time I would definitely still be playing them.

Sixteen-headed Gleeocks that spew room-filling waves of fire, and Deathknights that combine Darknuts with hyper speed and ridiculous attack power are sorely lacking from legitimate Zelda Games.

I'm playing Minish Cap now though I've never played Oracle of Seasons or Ages. To me, Minish Cap plays a whole lot like Link's Awakening or, Link to the Past with the later being my all-time favorite Zelda adventure. I think the main problem though is that Nintendo is focused on making 3D Zelda games at the moment. When was the last time Nintendo made a top-down or, 2D Zelda game after all? I've played Okami as well though I haven't beaten it and while I do see the parallels it makes with Zelda it really isn't. It's a fun game using the Zelda style but I'm not sure if it can fairly be used to compare Capcom with Nintendo in terms of 'who makes a better Zelda'. If you could you may also want to bring in Vigil Games who made the two Darksider's games to see which of those three made the best "Zelda" game...you can also include Konami and change the subject to Metroid but that would be unfair since Vampires beat out Space-Jelly-Parasites most every time (opinion).

It's funny with this positive thread regards to how the general feelings on Capcom Corporate aspects are nowadays. but I did really like their Zelda games, the Oracle games are some of my favorite GB titles of all time.

Well they succeeded with Okami but then the majority of people who made that left and made platinum games as has already been stated. Apart from Okami I dont think any company has made a better Zelda game than Nintendo then again I havent played the handheld Zelda games so I am speculating, but I dont like handheld gaming usually anyway.

I couldn't bring myself to complete Den. It felt like a mockery of all that Okami is.

I love, love, LOVE The Minish Cap but I feel almost the same for Link to the Past. So I'm gonna say Capcom knew how to make better portable Zelda games, the new Crapcom I'm not 100% sure they'd be able to pull it off :(

Sure the Oracles games and Minish Cap are good, but the best of Zelda? For me that's Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Wind Waker, so I'm going to vote Nintendo all the way.

And yes, Okami is wonderful, but not because of its similarities to Zelda, but for its differences (the great art style, music, and setting). In fact, when the game first came out, I can remember the number one complaint being levied against it was for how closely it followed the Zelda formula.

ALttP, LA, OOT, MM, WW

They may have made some good games, but Nintendo made the above.
How you can beat that, I do not know.

I think we really need to get out of this whole thing where we give a Publisher praise for what a developer does. Capcom didn't make Megaman, Inafune did Capcom didn't make Devil May Cry Kamiya did he also made Okami.

When we start equating the talent and not the company the industry will start doing some amazing things, because the companies will have more incentive to keep talented people.

If Capcom tried to make a Zelda game now it wouldn't be as good as those games you mentioned because the people that made them aren't at Capcom anymore.

When we talk about Film we don't say Oh it's a Universal Movie or Oh it's a Lions gate film. No We look to the talent behind the camera with the directors, or in front with the Actors.
