That "awesome" preview looks like total crap you should be glad they did the wind waker style instead.Snotnarok said:All of that said though, I'm not really a Zelda fan. I think some of the games are neat but I don't like playing many of them, the only one I played far as well as enjoyed was Twilight Princess because the characters were interesting and someone I want to save. While OoT, a game that gets endless praise I felt was empty, unrefined and lacking in depth of character giving me no compelling reason to save them. I thought this even when the game was new so it's not like some sorta view on games of yester-year and I'm a big retro game nerd, I'm still stumped why people think it's the 'best game ever' or 'the best zelda game' I think TP and WW trump it in every way. I get what you're saying but I don't think I'm subject to the fanbase's turmoil insanity. I'm not a diehard Nintendo fan, Metroid? Yes I'll admit I'm crazy in love with that series (minus ...one game)j-e-f-f-e-r-s said:I don't think so. I think they just experimented with the formula, and not everyone liked the results. That's what happens when you experiment with things. I wouldn't look at Skyward Sword's inspired visuals, incredible music and atmosphere, actually great motion controls and fantastic world design and say it lacked passion. Opinions, of course, but I've seen many, many games with lazier design than SS.Snotnarok said:It seems they lost their passion (in general) and they just stamp out crap to just rake in nostalgia cash.
Slightly off-topic- I've noticed a recurring trend with Zelda games: people will always slag off the current Zelda title until the next one comes out, in which case people will then start going on about how amazing and under appreciated it is.
Majora's Mask, people slagged it off for simply reusing the Ocarina assets, telling a weird story with time travel, and generally not being the game changer Ocarina came out.
Wind Waker came out, and people complained about how horrible the new artstyle was, how terrible sailing was, how the end-game was crap and Tingle was crap and the artstyle was horrible and nothing like the E3 demonstration. Conversely, they started going on about how Majora's Mask was an underrated masterpiece, the darkest game in the franchise, a breath of fresh air.
Twilight Princess came out and people started complaining that it was just a knock-off of Ocarina with a poor man's version of ALttP's parallel world system, crappy waggle controls, nothing new and too much reliance on old franchise staples such as Ganondorf, and there was too much brown. Conversely, people started going on about how underrated Wind Waker was, how it had one of the best uses of cel shading ever, how the ability to go sailing round the oceans was incredible, how it was the high point of the series.
Skyward Sword came out, and gamers complained about how there wasn't an open world to explore, how you needed to keep backtracking, how the artstyle wasn't as good, waggle controls, Fi was annoying, etc. Conversely, people started going on about how Twilight Princess was underrated, how it had the biggest world and most exploration of the Zelda series, how it brought back that dark atmosphere from Majora's Mask, how there was so much to do.
I've yet to find a fanbase as reliably broken as Zelda's. Whatever game is currently out, it's the one that came before that'll get the praise. When the new Zelda game comes out, I'm looking forward to seeing people start going on about how underrated Skyward Sword is, how the world exploration was a brilliant use of Metroidvania style gameplay in 3D, how the watercolour-esque graphics were the best in the series, etc etc, while slagging off whatever direction the new game goes in. And then the game after that. And that.
I saw a lot of the Zelda games (LPs, friend playing) and while I agree Wind Waker was neat, I'm sure many didn't really enjoy seeing that awesome gamecube preview of Link v Gannon then getting 'a cartoon'. I really think Wind Waker was a solid title that's fun to play today and looks great.Which brings me back to my complaint about it, they're 'remastering it' a cell shaded game that looks great now is getting a remastering? Not much is being done but they're going to slap a 50/60 dollar price tag on it. It's that kind of Mario-lazy that bothers me.
Maybe I'm not the best person to speak up on it, because I have enjoyed a lot of the games via LP or through a friend and some think that makes my opinion less valid but it's just something I figured I'd state in the topic that was presented.
Actually there is plenty that could be done with WW there are missing dungeons.
It's half a game to begin with. You could only hope.
Ducktales is also a remastering my I remind you.
