I've seen it. You've probably seen it, too, or know someone that's seen it. The Captchas, particularly on this site, seem to ask you to input some incredibly coincidental phrases or words that either relate to the topic at hand or how you feel about said topic, to the point where it gets down right mind boggling.

Hence, the question. I know, one way or the other, it really doesn't mean much at the end of the day...but the discussion value on this topic...well, between Daystar, Therumancer, Hankman 3.0 and Calumon, it should be quite an interesting discussion to say the least.

Captcha: paint it red (in green letters). I wish I could, but I do not possess the knowledge to make my post red, Captcha. And I see what you did there...

My guess? Advertising Captchas (PubClub [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/registration/subscribe] Superstar here so I assume they're still the advertisement ones) uses a similar system as Google Ads. Basically, the Captcha can recognize key words in your text and uses it to try to match something to your tastes.

For example, in Gmail, if I am writing an email to my Mum about the trip I'm about to go on, Google Ads recognizes the "trip" keywords and gives me airfare ads. Same thing for Captcha I assume.

EDIT for fun: Although I suppose if you want, you can argue that if the machines can read our stuff for ads, how long until they can read our emails for our fears!? How long until they use those fears to start scaring us!?! How long until they scare us that we start a war with the machines, giving them the excuse they need to Skynet us!?!?! Oh dear...

^ Most likely true.
Advertising surely isn't getting any less invasive that's for sure.

MINE ANSWER IS TACOS! But I am drunk and in drunk that means fucking no.

In a post about MLP and how i think it is meh having to type "wind energy" but refusing and putting in "titties" until it let me put on something not related to an ad kind of puts a damper on things. Then again If reliant does try to put titties in an ad I may change my tone.

I didn't get a captcha on this post.

It's onto us. Somebody find a captcha; we have to get some answers.

Whenever it has me describe a product using words, I just type "Evil", so maybe I'm contributing to the robots' inevitable enslavement of humanity.

I haven't gotten one of those advertising captchas in what seems like forever. Though I don't doubt I'll run across them again at some point. Last one I got was while responding in the thread about old school RPGs and I got "labour of love".

Hence the birth of this thread.

I think this belongs in the 'things you can't prove, but believe' thread.

I think it's probably just coincidence, mixed in with a "placebo" effect

I can help you with the color of you posts. You do [ color=(insert your color here) ] without the spaces and [/color] to stop using that color
Yes, the captcha is sentient. I feel we need to kill AGHHH!
Do not be alarmed humans. It is perfectly harmless. There is no pain, only a pinch in the back of your neck
