PC gamers i assume like he and I find it hard to fathom playing a "PC" rpg style game on a console, there's alot to micromanage on harder difficulties that i couldnt possibly imagine doing efficiently on a controller
But thats just me, i dont like console FPS games either, but i love em on pc

And yes if you liked Baldurs Gate-era RPGS, you should like this game

It's mostly how are the large-scale battles not utterly impossible without the tactical view.

I was disappointed. Even when other areas of Bioware games have been lacking in quality, I've gotten used to a high level of storytelling. I've been trudging through the game slowly, because not at one point have I felt even a tinge of immersion, excitment or humor from the main story or any side quest. The NPCs range from the annoying to forgettable, and there's a distinct "going through the motions" feel to the entire project. It's not bad, as in Bethesda bad, but it's mediocre at best.

It's a good play, didn't get much time on it though, couldn't prize the girlfriend off of it

So I'm a long time Bioware fan but Dragon Age is one of the only games they've made in a long time that I haven't had that much interest in. All of my friends say it's incredible but for some reason I'm having trouble believing them. So I ask you guys for some advice. Is Dragon Age worth getting and if so why?
It's next-gen Icewind Dale basically. All combat, no brains. The reason people heap praise on it is because they don't know anything about the Infinity Engine Era and therefore think that DA:O is the second coming of Christ. They just don't know any better.
Combat is great. as mister glass half empty here stated. But their's also every great aspect in a bioware game. romancing, excellent story, everything youd expect from a bioware game is here, and if your a fan of their stuff, then Id expect you will like this.

The short answer: An emphatic yes.

depends on whether you still have any patience left for the Bioware RPG setup.

Since they're all (except mass effect) set up nearly identical, it's really easy to get tired of.

It is one of my favorite games of all time, if you enjoy BioWare (or RPG's at all) Dragon Age: Origins is worth a shot.

Absolutely! Personally I find it to be one of the most polished RPGs I've played in a very long time. The character creation tool is sufficient, the world is interesting, the voice acting is simply incredible, the music is top notch and gameplay is fairly challenging and over all quite enjoyable.

If you have even a passing interest in Bioware-style RPGs, I strongly advice you to pick this up.

Good God yes.

I wasn't particularly interested at first as it did seem quite a generic fantasy game, but when you play it it's just incredible.

The story's only generic in it's synopsis, not in the details if that makes sense.

If you have a PC capable of running it then yes. Get it, get it now! I wouldn't recommend it for a console but I wont go as far as to forbid it.

I would suggest buying it, I personally found it really hard to get into, took me about 2 hours play time to like it, but after that it was amazing. If you buy it remember to give yourself some time to get into it, once you do the story is definitely worth it.

Absolutely.

I'm not sure I'd recommend Awakening, though. It's very unfulfilling. DA:O has a lot of room for improvement, but it's a satisfying gaming experience. In my opinion, Awakening is not.

No.

It's rather bland and repetitive, plus it is being milked out with stupid DLC that should be free or just part of the main game.

Haven't played Awakenings so maybe that changes things, but there are far better RPGs than Dragon Age out now.

I felt exactly the same as you. I love all Bioware games but looked at Dragon Age and thought 'really?' It just didn't seem like my thing. I picked it up second hand for £15 and wished immediately that I'd picked it up on release. It's that good! I reccommend it to any Bioware fans, especially those, like me, who had doubts about it, cos it is a fantastic RPG with great charatcers and voice acting, a decent main story and a world you can easily lose yourself in

I never had any interest in it, and I bought it on a whim during Steam's summer sale. I regret not getting it earlier. Excellent storytelling, varied combat and great, unpredictable quests? Sign me up.
