**this is just my personal view**

NO WAY

i think is a pretty big difference between the 2

electronica usually tends to have i more"peppy and up-beat type of music" with lyrics
where as'
electronic has a "dark and deep overtone" with not really to much lyrics

like these bands might help

electronica: MGMT
Le Loup
fischerspooner
Justice

Electronic:
Justice (yes it does fall under both categories cause they have both types of songs)
The Polish Ambassadors
Linus Loves
Kernkraft 400

There's that many different types of music nowadays who can really call something A or B without someone calling it C.

Electronica was coined in the mid-nineties around the time of Depeche Mode's-Ultra [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=40yeIIMbqDY] album. Prodigy [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fz85FE0KtQ] and The Chemical Brothers [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=V7Y7fMbbaP8] are also pretty fairly important in the term being widely used. Today people like to think of electronica as 'electro.' [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hO8xi9S0jUo] A sort of rebranding of an oldschool sound to make it pertinent in today's youth.

Electronic is a broad term to describe all sorts of music made with software and hardware rather than instruments. The term electronic is used to describe anything from dance to r&b music, and is a reference to the production method rather than an entire genre.

In a general sense you are right, electronica was coined to give description to a genre of rock that relied heavily on synthesizers but did not totally abandon the guitar. Ironically, electronica is in fact a kind of electronic music, just like electro, a lot of rap, and even some of the newer indie music such as Caribou [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QklfmJ4vfLs] and Panda Bear [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KevxkY_OrMA].

Electronica is a fancy way to say Techno basically.

The music you think of up beat is called.... Trance and you also have Hardcore,Drum and bass,Speedcore,Happycore(Speed up trance)(Which along with Drum and Bass is what most raves will play))

However I have been out of the loop in the rave scene now for a few years. So some of my names of what we called them may be wrong now.But overall Electronica at least in the rave scene I was at, Was a way for ravers to talk about Techno without saying the word Techno as most
people when they hear the word have a biased view of the music.

Also like I said it came as just a fancy way to tell other people you go to raves pop your MDMA and listen to Happycore Electronica.

P.S As far as Electronic it's not the same as that is far more of a umbrella term that I have heard can also include say Industrial and BPM and the like. Though I would say Electronica is one of things that is included under the umbrella of the term Electronic.

From what I recall, electronica also encompasses music made on synthesisers, samplers, computers etc that doesnt necessarily fall into the techno category, ambient for example.

Not sure if things like garage or dubstep would fit into electronica. Personally, I've always though of 'electronica' as an American categorisation, its not one I've ever used myself or encountered in the UK.
