Some of you may have heard that video game retailer "Game" here in Australia is basically shutting it's doors, realising I had a credit voucher from a game I traded in, I decided to head down to my local shop, which was already closed, looked up online, only 2 were still open in my state (Queensland). I live in the north, those two stores are in the south and were about a 2,000km (1,250 miles) drive away. So I thought, ok I'll se if I can use it online... but discovered they immediately had made it a rule that any vouchers or credit can only make up less than 25% of the total purchase price.
So I posted this on their facebook wall...
"I was quite a big Game fan and a repeat customer, even racked up a fair few rewards points. But:
If I understand correctly, my traded in game that I got $38 store credit for (A brand new, unopened copy of ME3, long story), a few days later Game craps itself and says vouchers can only make up 25% of a purchase, and now in order for me to use my $38 of credit, I'll have to spend $152 total... so lets do some math here. I selected 3 random games on the Game website, Max Payne 3 ($88), Assassins Creed: Rev ($54) and Modern Warfare 3 ($58)totalling $200, these 3 games are already heavily discounted so the 40% sale doesn't apply (I know, I tried it), minus my voucher (200-38=$162)... now... those same 3 games on Oz Game Shop??? $119 total... wow, that means by trading in a game, I've cost myself the game and $43.
You know what? Forget it, keep the money. Consider it a farewell present. Good riddance to bad business."
That was my post, I'll be interested to see how long it takes before they yank it.
What do you think?
EDIT: Yeah I realise I should have used 3 games that totaled closer to $152 to make my point better but I didn't want to spend all day making a simple argument.
UPDATE: Recieved this email in response to my cutomer query:
