Giftcards are such a fine scheme by the companies. Money is portrayed as rude, while giftcards are perfect!

In reality, you basically paid the company the amount of money you're 'giving' to someone.

If they received true money, then they could spend it on any products from any store. Giftcards limit you to a single store.

If you honestly have no idea what to buy for a person, then cash is the only option sometimes. It's hard to buy for people who you don't know much about.

Give them cash
Or give them a shitty gift that they will hate

I'll take my chances with thee cash.

No, because if you don't know what to get someone than you can just give them money so they can get something that they want. But maybe the person who gave you the money didn't get you anything and they just stopped at the bank before coming over to give you your gisft.

Giving cash as a gift is something I don't find rude at all. Granted, while it is more fun to unwrap an actual item as opposed to an envelope with money, giving cash allows the person to get what they really want as opposed to what you thought they'd want.

Plus, it helps prevent those extremely awkward "They gave me a gift I really don't want but I'm going to act like I appreciate it until I ask for the receipt" moments, which are never fun no matter what side you're on.
