Maybe, but it's also true I find that when a game had gore that is appropriate, or can help characterize characters (Kratos, God of War, anyone?) then it can be something helpful. There is a different line for each game as to the level that the gore should be at. It's just that excessive gore hurts a game more than having too little, because it's noticed more easily. However, think if God of War had no gore at all. That would throw of the character of Kratos quite a bit.
