It's the biggest flaw I can see with Black Ops, it's robbed me of kills SO many times it's gotten to the point now that I can barely play if anyone or myself is lagging the slightest bit.

MW2's hit detection was fantastic, that's one of the few things that monstrosity got right.

So... does it bother anyone else?

You forgot your poll...?

And how was the MW2 detection good? I mean, it was mostly because of sniper shots where I aimed on the head of someone who wasn't moving and then didn't hit them that I stopped playing.

OT: Nah. I'm good with the hit detection on BlOps

That's really strange... I had everything done out for the poll correctly...

It was good because the bullets I know were on target actually hit people unlike in Black Ops where they just get sponged

Hit detection in MW2 seemed just bizarre I reckon, I mean thats the reason quickscoping was so damn easy.

While BO's detection is not a big issue to me personally, it can be pretty lame.
Emptying a mag into a guys face with no result for instance.

I'm talking in general here, not just quick scoping, I don't quick scope anyway.

The problem isn't the detection, it's the lag. I can prove this because I knifed a guy in the head and absolutely nothing happened. This lead to me losing my 1000 CoD points.

If you're sick of people sponging then play on hardcore mode.

i never liked CoDs multiplayer, i mostly buy them for the entertaining story, and then play one hour or so of MP out of principal so i get my 6 hours of game time (i never pay more than 30 euroes for a CoD game and 5 euroes pr hour is the most i will pay before feeling ripped off).

for me there is so many things "wrong" with the multiplayer in those games that i never have an enjoyable experience, but i will say that in those very few hours i have played MP hit detection never seemed to be the problem, especially since most people seem to use explosion based weaponry.

Massive pain in the behind when I play on the 360. Haven't played on PS3 (heard that the matchmaking is impossible on there post-1.4), but I've heard that the PC's dedicated servers *glares at IW* make the hit detection as perfect as your ping will allow.

I notice that that happens quite often on the Escapist.

If you specify a poll, sometimes it wont actually add the poll, but will still prefix your title with 'poll:'.

Too bad the massive crux is that people with insanely varying pings will join a sever, and usually by some miracle the person with the lowest ping and the greatest will be at an advantage while everyone else gets stuck with the bullshit.
The lowest ping people will literally kill you instantly with a small burst from their gun and the highest ping guy will usually end up being a knife and teleport across the map and when you see him a distance off try to down him with a gun, he'll go poof and magically appear a second before you to stab you in the face.

But yea, the sponging of bullets in the game gets to the point of nonsense, especially when I get like 6+ hit markers and a guy still rushes into me, or when I get a hit marker for a knife and the guy should be dead but for some reason he knifes me and I drop dead instead. This all really sucks when I spawn and people literally drop me instantly, but when I try some people will take a good 5 or so seconds of fire and a full clip before they die.

Well, it is alright on the 360 version, but, overall, Modern Warfare 2's is better.
The engine overall is better, and if Blops was running on MW2's engine, it would be one of the best multiplayer games of the decade, in my opinion. With a few tweaks, of course.

Just watching commentary vids of BO shows that lag is a serious issue, I literally saw a guy aiming metres in front of somebody to get hit markers.

Well, I mostly notice that lag means your shots don't always exist, especially seeing yourself shotgun a knifer, and then noticing the blast is absent in his killcam.
Personally, I think you'd still fire after you were knifed.

I have had no problems with hit detection on any of the CoD games.

Although sometimes I swear my cross-hairs are on the person whilst using a sniper rifle but I just miss (this may be because of the patch which made snipers bad though)

They're most likely recording from Theater Mode, that always looks ridiculously laggy regardless of how good their connection was in that particular game

My main problems with Black Ops lie more in the spawn points (though they seem to have gotten better recently) and the lag between commanding your character to move and actually having him do it. Hit detection is not a problem for me, and I will keep playing the game for months, but that's just my problem with it.

The hit detection in these games work fine. The part that is currently (and indeed has always been) broken is the lag mitigation system. While I am (obviously) not privy to the exact nature of how it works, when you fire at a target on your screen your little packet of data is sent to the server. When all the necessary packets are in place (even if they arrived at different times) the server calculates the results and sends the appropriate updates out. Sometimes, when you (the shooter) believe your round hit the target and the target's system disagrees, the server is called upon to mediate the dispute. This is also the reason your kill cam will lie to you (most of the time).

Yeah annoys me...Not sure if its the game or the lag though but generally the connection seems sound :S

A fair few times I've had my scope up target filling it up bang...Nothing, return fire kills me. I went back once and watched it on the movie thingy and the floor/wall behind the target was reacting to my shots but the guy didn't even get touched.

I thought it was just their quick fix to snipers at first, but it happens with my m14 and skorpion too.

Yeah but it was like it was weird because it looked like he'd made an adjustment in his aiming in order to get kills because at the start he was clearly aiming parfectly at these people but not getting any hit detection and then as it progressed he started aiming in front of people as they run and then they started dying.
