Wow, thanks for the responses everyone, I'm actually quite surprised that so many people voted yes. What about the people who voted no? Why is truth more important to you than happiness?
Happiness does not result from bliss, so your question is rather invalid. I do value the truth more than my happiness I guess; I am a man of principles, and I do not like being lied to. Of course, ignorance does not always mean that, but closing your eyes and ignoring everything you do not like is... Well, it's weak.

How the fuck is yes winning? Am I missing something? Ignorance is not,and can never be bliss. It just means you're unprepared for what's to come.
Yea, I'm confused as well.

People who are (no offense intended) "retards" tend to be very happy. I myself would trade all of my intellect (laughs) and charisma (cries) to be like them.

I'd rather be happy and ignorant. I'm like the guy from the matrix who wanted to be put back into the system without remembering that world was actually a computer simulation.
but then that gives the question on whats lifes purpose or whats your purpose since you know your happy but then why are you happy ? because if you know the truth then that could lead to a purpose but if you choose ignorance then that makes a purpose but that purpose is not real therefore it shouldn't really be thier

i hope i made sense on the comment because i think you made a pretty cool point
I sort of understand, I'd be happy, but I have no purpose, which makes sense, but if I were perfectly happy and ignorant, then I don't think I would care.

No and here's an example why.

The ignorant believe in the 2012 myth

The knowledgeable know that there is no such legend pretaining to anything regarding the Mayans.

Ignorance is not bliss, Ignorance is an excuse to panic over stupid shit.

I love the saying, "If ignorance is bliss, then you're the happiest person alive."

I prefer to smile over a lie than cry over the truth.

Those that think that ignorance is bliss do not appreciate the intelligence they have.

Your intelligence allows you to avoid problems or sticky situations, alternatively, it can help you solve them. One of the greatest fears is the fear of the unknown and rightly so. To be ignorant is to know little and that means you have plenty to fear.

Some people say that babies are so lucky, just lie in bed, get carried around, given food and not having to work at all. Then why can babies get so frustrated to cry their lungs out?

I sometimes wonder if babies are afraid they'll of starvation if they get really hungry.

Only cowards would not want to know.

i need to know the the truth at all times but then again i don't need happiness to sustain sanity. in thruth, ignorance is only bad when ignorant people rise to power "i'm looking at you media industry" when i'm at school, i'm usually dispelling rumors and correcting information, while my fellow students dabble in their own ignorance

qft.

I know a lot and I learn fast. I'm not even remotely happy - and nobody could be in my situation unless they were completely unaware of the world around them.

The question is, what's "intelligent". That's the concept most people fail to grasp. They bring the word down to a negative level of depression, sorrow, and overall unhappiness.
Excuse me, but... what?

If you think you know what intelligence means, you're the ignorant person here.

Anyhoo, I say yes. I'm trying to figure out some personal questions, and the more I reminisce and realize things form the past, the worse it all seems. Still trying to find some answers as we speak, knowing it'll pop up even more questions.

Truth is fundamental. The reason the world today is what it is is because so much of it is based on lies... On deceit. Happiness based on lies is like walking on ice: You can ignore the fact that bellow you there is a river, but there's only so much it can take, and sooner or later, it breaks, and while you were busy jumping on the ice, you never learned to swim...So you'll drown.

What I'm saying is, all lies shatter, sooner or latter... Happiness isn't true unless it's based on truth, in honesty... Cause that's the one that lasts. When you finally accept things for what they are, and begin enjoying them for it, that's when you're truly happy...

It's like the old "if I can't see it, it's not there" thing. If you're standing in front of a lion and the lion's hungry, you can close your eyes and pretend it's not there... But it is...And it's still hungry... Sure you can fool yourself into being happy while it doesn't eat you, but sooner or later it will... The only way to really be free of it, is to deal with it.

Lies are a jail of happiness.

Yes and no. With smaller stuff, i.e. if something that sounds disgusting is in food that tastes good, but it would put me off of the food if I knew, I'll take the ignorance. But something big, like a relationship or something work-related, the truth is best. Life isn't bliss, regardless, so you might as well know.

Ignorance is bliss.
If you truly have faith in people, religon, nature or some kind of general goodness in the universe you are ignorant and naive.
Or put another way, how can one truly experience bliss when they are aware of the constant suffering of those around them?

You just proved my point. People see realization as horrible because it sheds light upon things. People create their own sense of happiness.

Also, I heartily believe most people throw atheism into being "intelligent" because of their self-decieved methods to understand themselves. They group Christianity into group that is deemed too "unintelligent" for them because they fail to grasp the concept initially.

There is no bliss ignorance, because beyond realization and learning is true happiness. It means coming to terms with truth, not judging it by a blind method of learning.
