I've seen it few times, a person making LP's comes here and makes a thread for each part. And depending on the game, the viewership is decent. But it is promotion in an attempt to get more subs and views. While I don't think it's against the rules here, I'm wondering what is the communities views on posting Let's Plays in the Gaming Discussion?

I'm asking this mostly because I am a person that is trying to improve his ranks in the realm of LP's and progress is undoubtably slow, I've got 31 subscribers in roughly 6 months. I don't try and promote myself anywhere as I mainly wanted to try and earn my way through content alone, and I don't think can actually work. Even if my LPs are in HD.

** This isn't a knock on anybody that has done this, this is more so me asking "If I do it, is someone gunna ream me out for it?"

It's against the rules and counts as advertising.

If you make a discussion out of it then it's ok, but if the intention is a blatant advert then don't bother.
I understand it's not easy to get the word out with so many people doing the same, but being spammed at every turn will just make us ignore everyone more.

This site doesn't really have much in the way of personal promotion, maybe you could try making your own group and keep people updated on what you do, generally you should look for sites that were built around attention whoring gathering like facebook/twitter.

Making your own thread for it is.
Myself I tend to post a link in a thread if it seems relevant but not too much to seem like I'm being all annoying and shit.

Also some people here really have something against people who do LPs, I dunno why, but they can get kinda aggressive at times.

Game Grumps would like a word with you.

POPPY BROTHAZ JUNIOR!

OT: Ask @Marter or another moderator if you can post LPs in the User Review forums. But you DEFINITELY can't post them in this section. Throw an admin a PM about it to be safe. User Reviews are the only place were self promotion is even slightly okay.

[HEADING=2]Use Our Forums Appropriately[/HEADING]
Our forums are a place to talk with like-minded people, not a place to advertise your blog, webpage, YouTube channel or commercial enterprise. Your profile has a place for such things, and that is where it should stay. If you fail to do this, you will automatically get a 1 month suspension.
Well it kinda is but I don't really mind it.
Still think it isn't the right place to post that kinda thing, iunno, better get someone more knowledgeable to help.

You could make a group for it? And post the videos in the news section of the group... and then people could follow your vids then?

I'm guessing you're talking about video lets plays, because there are plenty of screenshot LPs on this forum.

The yotube LPs are different because it pretty much has very little involvement. If you are using it to get more views it's against the rules.

I think the only exception is if your videos were only viewable via an embed in the escapist forums, to pretty much make a video version of a forum LP.
