I have opportunity to play nearly every new game that comes out, and now that it's november, the games I actually want to play are rearing their heads.

I've been looking forward to games like Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origins for a long time, and now that I've gotten to play them both, I came to a realization:

I'm not that into them.

Borderlands looked to take the place of Fallout 3 as my favorite game of level-up-based shooting. Obviously, it fell meters short of that. But it's okay that it's not as good as Fallout 3; that's a very, very high bar to clear. But god damn it, it was just boring.

So i ditched it quickly in favor of Dragon Age. It was going to be a bit of a departure for me, since I'm not really used to the more traditional RPG games (I was raised on Sonic the Hedgehog, 'nuff said), but I thought that the story of Dragon Age looked interesting enough to take the plunge.

And once again, for some reason I couldn't get into it. Something about it just isn't compelling me to continue.

So that's 2 titles I was looking forward to that I couldn't get into. Not a great start to the holiday gaming season. I mean, I do have my Uncharted 2 and my Ratchet & Clank to fall back on, but I'm going to finish those games eventually.

Here's hoping Assassin's Creed II really does fix all its predecessor's problems.

[small](oh, and don't bother mentioning Modern Warefare 2. I don't care.)[/small]

No games are perfect, but I've enjoyed the last games I've bought nonetheless. It's because I focus on what I like about the game, instead of what I don't like. Additionally, I know what I like, and buy only the games I'm very confident I'm going to like. I haven't bought Dragon Age: Origins yet, but I expect I will spend a lot of time with it when I do. I haven't got Borderlands however, because I know it's just not entirely my cup of tea...
It's all about knowing your own taste.

I'm getting that too to be honest. Even the games I actually fully enjoyed are being left unfinished because I've just jumped back on to playing the games I've owned for a while. No idea why.

It's true, I find myself barely keeping interest for a few days now. Literally the last game that kept me going for ages was....oblivion perhaps?

Have not been abosrbed by a game in alooong time Brutal Legend was fun but 3-4 days worth of entertainment tops, Takken 6 was awsome as ever for multiplayer with a friend but the campaign mode is a horrid beat em' up (If i wanted a beat em up I would have played a good one like The bouncer, Beat Down of Godhand) and the online is just ugh.

Games these days are designed by marketing committees, not game developers and game enthusiasts like they used to be. Since gaming is no longer considered a niche appeal, every big title is designed to be as broadly appealing as possible, which doesn't even come close to what people who have really been following the games industry 10+ years ago would expect from their games. If you want good games, try the indie market.

I know exactly what you mean. Games seem to lack an umph that ol' skool games have.

My bet is riding on Uncharted 2, plus Fallout 3 GOTY to take up my time this holiday

Ditching Borderlands early is probably why you didn't enjoy it that much. It's a game that takes a bit of a commitment. Put in some time, get some decent guns, and the fun starts to roll in along the way. Also don't play as Brick. He's an awful character and this is coming from someone who usually likes to play "TANK" in games.

Or maybe it just wasn't your thing. Either way I hope you enjoy your next game more.

I read to the part where you called Borderlands boring and deduced that it's just you, Although Fallout 3 is a great game I wouldn't really think it was comparable to Borderlands because of how different they are.

I have gone of current releases majory, to the extent that no release other than the next Stalker has me interested slightly, I didn't know what borderlands was until I read a reveiw, greeted COD 6 (its COD 6, call it modern warfare 2 all you want, you cant escape from that)with a big yawn, L4D 2 is waiting until a half price offer and I cant even think of any other games at this moment.

I just downloaded an 2003 release called Freelancer and thats been a blast so far

it's you, you just have different tastes in games, everybody does, just like how I am not a big fan of half life or portal, it just doesn't appeal to me

I do find that developers are, on the whole, way too lazy. :p Games USED to be huge, like legend of the dragoon. Now i struggle to find a game that takes more than a day or two to finish.
