If it is impossible for you to ask face to face, sure why not. Otherwise it seems kind of cowardly. To me anyway.

I can't help but hear this being said in a Krogan voice in my head, specifically, the almost John Goodman like tones of Urdnot Wrex. God bless the miraculous convergence of your avatar and writing style, good sir.

I would say, face to face is always best. Anything else is subject to circumstance. On the phone is also fine. This implies you obtained a phone number in person.
You're very kind sir, however I pressed the red button and now all I see is Beiber, thank the lord I don't know what he sounds like.

I said 'no' but I feel the need to clarify. I'm a confident person and if I want to ask someone out, I'll do it in person if I'm actually with them at the time. If I'm not, and I'm just suggesting a casual date (ie drinks or a coffee) then a text is totally fine. Obviously I wouldn't declare my love for someone via text...

Yes, it shows either that you're not confident enough to man up and just ask her face to face, or you're not really that bothered about her.

Don't ask private crap like that on facebook. He/She can't kindly say no, because everyone on the face of the Earth will see it.

I take it you're not familiar with the messaging or chat functions?

If you see that person regularly, you should do it face to face. If you know them but don't meet them often, I think texting or, um, facebooking is acceptable.

It's so tacky! If you're going to ask them out, why not do it face to face?

Same goes for breaking up with someone.

As a person in an online relationship i'm all for expressing emotions through text, but Skype let us both see that nothing is more important than actally being able to hear and see the person you like, especially if it's something importan or close to heart you wanna talk about.

So i wouldn't call it tacky or uncool, but i would call it easily ignorable and lacking in emotional interest (from the other person). So if you were thinking about going about asking someone out like that i recommend just doing it in person instead. The sincerity of a direct and personal request could tip the person over :)
Online relationship ? What's that ?

I don't care if we're on the internet, or in the 21st century, grow a pair and ask in person. Its just respectful and shows you have the guts to really ask someone out.

Same for breakups, out of basic human decency.

I asked someone out in chat once. We ended up going out together for about a year. We didn't know each other outside of chat until that point.

Depends on how old you are. It starts off being gutless but the older you get it just gets worse. It's just not cricket if you know what I mean.

Not sure if you're being serious when you put your question so bluntly, but i'll answer anyways. It's the same as a long distance relationship. My girlfriend lives in America and i live in Norway so our only means of seeing and talking to each other on a regular basis are via internet. Sometimes it's just text chat and sometimes it's video chat on Skype, but either one makes sure we're still together :)

I asked my girlfriend out by text, but only because I didn't want to do it in the car as her grandmother dropped me off at home, and it would've been another week before I saw her again so I just texted her that night. In general face to face is better though

The only time I've seen this is as acceptable is you want to meet the person and haven't had any other means to. I recently got asked to a "coffee date" over facebook from someone I never met, but that's about as far it goes.

Have the balls to say it in their face.
