I'm not talking about actors, or the movies; This is simply about the games. It's been a LONG time since GoldenEye and since then, we've gotten a lot of average to awful James Bond titles that continue to fail at recapturing magic of the 1997 legendary game. At some point, publishers have to realize that it's not going to happen again. Not in the FPS genre at least.

Bond is so much more than just a gun on a screen. He has such an iconic personality, he's smooth, arrogant, intelligent, and dangerous. So much of this is never displayed in the video games because they're so focused on being high-action packed shoot'em ups with waves upon waves of henchmen. I can't think of a more flawed way of depicting of what it is to 'Be Bond' than basing an entire game around that 10% of the movie.

In my opinion, the best direction for a new 007 game should take the direction of a Mass Effect like experience. You can still have the action there, but much of the game is interaction with the world around you. You can have those card game scenes, the first face-to-face with the villains, swooning the femme fatals etc.

What do you say?

Wait a minute OP, you aren't talking about doing the GoldenEye thing at all... you want all drama and shit, I really can't say I would enjoy that.
I loved the old Bond movies because the guy was essentially a superhero with his sci-fi gadgets or rather Batman before someone figured out how to make a good Batman movie, also plenty of cloak and dagger stuff, the touchy feely parts I endure for the sake of more cool toys to come, but if touchy feely is your focus I'll just plain hate it... which is why I hate the new Bond movies.

Go get Alpha Protocol.

Also go back and play GoldenEye. It's aged so badly, as someone who played it first a few years ago on an emulator with a controller it's pure shit.

I would say...go for a Deus Ex type playstyle.

Build it around stealthy gameplay, dialogue battles with people, coercing information out of them, the choice whether to be a stealthy infiltration ghost or a shoot em up. Lethal vs non-lethal gameplay, maybe some computer hacking too.

Also give us Assassin's Creed parkour style bits too, and an upgrade system to upgrade your gadgets.

Damn, that's the third time in three days I've seen someone mention that in an unrelated thread. I really need to try that game.

But yeah, like the guy above said, Deus Ex would be a decent game at emulating that sort of thing.

Best goddamn Bond game ever, without Bond.

Played it last month and now I need Alpha Protocol 2. NEED!
Goddamit Sega and Obsidian where's 2 already?

I'm afraid that's unlikely, I read in an interview with someone from Obsidian that Sega had essentially cancelled any notion of a sequel. However, he did say that they would like to do something like that again, just not in the short term future as they're currently focusing on their other projects (Project Eternity and Wasteland 2).

True... Game sold badly, like most if not all Obsidian games.
This spy rpg thing is something rather original and would be cool to see other like it.

I dug out my N64 to test that and... not true dude!

I wouldn't want to play it without a N64 controller though, that thing had a unique (ahem) layout and smoothly moving and aiming in particular would be awkward at best on a dual stick set up.

Something I noticed that I miss hugely now is the way the levels change with the difficulty. Some levels are the same length but others go from five minute blasts two half hour plus epics with a whole check list of things to do. It's much better than the homogeny we have now.

We had a new 007 game not even 12 months ago. Infact we've had one a year for 4 years running now. Just go back to Everything Or Nothing and we can finally have a good bond game again.
Weird you mention that one, it's the last bond game I bought and played. Did the bond games really turn sour afterwards? (I quite liked everything or nothing)

Basically if they want to make a new successful Bond game they should make it very much like Alpha Protocol, or if they don't want to RPG they could always go with a Hitman style game (like Blood Money rather than the new one).
