Poll: Is Jack Black actually funny?

Everytime I would see Jack Black in a movie I would always have split feelings about whether he was funny. Sometimes I found hime juvenile, vulgar and crude but other times he would say or do something with some wit and thought, and it would be funny. I was wondering how other people perceived him.

He can be. Pick of Destiny was great. Nacho Libre was an ok movie, but it wasn't funny. Same with Be Kind Rewind. I loved School of Rock. It really depends on the movie. Basically - if he's rocking out, he's pretty funny, but when he's just trying to be funny, he's not really that funny.

Some of his stuff is hilarious. School of Rock and The Pick of Destiny were both really quite funny

But on the other hand he made Year 1 which was so unfunny and shit it hurts.

If it involves a rock then I think Jack can be very good (here's hoping Brutal Legend follows this theory)

well its not he who writes the jokes, really its the wrtiter. he makes the script as funny as he is able.

I think what's so great about him is that he's so authentic.

He actually worships rock and thinks he's some kind of rock god (which he may very well be with some of his pseudo-epic Tenacious D tracks).

The man stays loyal to his passion.

When he cares about what he's doing he's great. I think the reason I found School of Rock, Tenacious D and the Brutal Legend demo so funny is because Jack really seems to care about rock.

I think the man is not only funny, but awesome. He lives his life doing what he loves and making it even better. Sure he gets crude some times, but damn it I can respect him.

Jack Black is very cool, but I don't always find him funny. His humour's just not to my tastes, except that one song he did, "Tribute". No music video has ever got my undivided attention for as long as that one. It is hilarious.

He is great when he is great and terrible when he isnt. I loved him in be kind rewind. Plus he doesnt really seem like that bad of a guy. He seems to have the whole making kids feel good about themselves feel which I can jive with. He does it well because he doesnt seem to force it like most rich celebrities do.

Sometimes he can be hillarious like in some parts of the school of rock but then he just seems soo..dull. I don't pay enough attention to him to find him funny to be honest, people like monty python now they are funny! and eddie izzard. Actually there are alot of people i pay attention to and Jack Black isn't really one of them.

I saw him live with Kyle Gass at Leeds 2008 and the songs were good, no real comedy per se, though.
Personally, i think he leans on the word Fuck too much.
