We are having a discussion about why he quit assassins creed: brotherhood he has lots of reasons he quit. A big reason he was fighting is that there was limited customization yet he plays games such as ssb and says the reason is the point of brawl is not customization so it is OK while it is not OK in acb. This seems quite hypocritical (to me) that it is a legitimate reason to complain about this game so I ask you fellow escapees do you agree?

Seems a bit stupid, but if he doesn't like the game, let it rest. He doesn't owe you an explanation of why it's not his style.

Maybe he sees a difference in gameplay versus customization that you don't. Maybe he just doesn't give a dick about the game and want to rip on it as much as possible, even the really feeble arguments. Or maybe he's a hipocrite. In the end, he should just not play the game.

I think that it isn't hypocritical. Certain games should have customization and certain ones shouldn't. His opinion is his opinion, so you should just let it be.

Not really, SSB isn't the type of game where you'd expect that. AC however, being a more open game, is expected to have a decent amount of customization.
Agh, accidentally voted yes >_<

If you have customisation in a game you should have loads, if none then have lots of something else, simple really

I've never played any Assassin's Creed games, but from what I understand they have character-driven plots that expect the player to care about their characters and the world around them. Giving the player some customization options could potentially help this. I don't think having an established character is necessarily a bad thing if done well, but if customization is such an important thing to your friend I can understand his reasoning.

Brawl, on the other hand, is a party game in which you have fun beating up a bunch of iconic characters controlled by your friends. There is no plot because the insanity of the gameplay would defy even the best writer. There is no customization because the entire point is that you already know who the characters are. Emotional connection comes from nostalgia, not player involvement.

So, no, I don't think your friend is a hypocrite at all. I do, however, look askance at you for bringing such a trivial conflict to the Escapist looking for validation of your own view.

I think he's an idiot, but not a hypocrite. The point of ACB isn't customization, either.

Also, learn some grammar. Your post hurts my eyes.

Well, I really like customization in my games, so I can see where he's coming from.
I was a little disappointed in Red Dead's lack of in-depth customization, but I still enjoy the online multiplayer.

Still, seems a little silly.

Well, in a fighting game you are supposed to have different characters, and since those in Smash Brothers are pretty much fixed anyway (there is THE Kirby, THE Mario and such), while in Assassin's Creed you're actually supposed to play one character all the time, who - in the context of the game - fully represents you as a person in the game world. This way, I think your friend does have a point.

I assume AssCreed Bromance is similar to 2, in which case I clap him on the shoulder for quitting.

No. Brawl is a fighting game, where it's all about skills and not the loadout. AC is more about doing everything how you want to and having fun in a sandbox. Hell, Brawl isn't even 3D. He is 100% in the right and you are kinda of being a jerk.

Some games need more customization than others, so his argument is not hypocritical; however, I haven't played that AC game, so I can't give an opinion on whether or not your friend has a point against the game.

This is pretty much the general consensus...

You can pretty much customize a lot of the aspects of gameplay in Brawl to some degree, including level creation.

Well, fighting games aren't meant to have customization at all since they're diversified enough with the roster of characters. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood has everyone playing essentially the same character, so I can kinda see where he's coming from.

Your friend gave you his opinion and your response was to come on here to garner support for your point of view. Bravo.

To answer the question, no he's not. SSBB is a fighting game where you just pick pre-set characters and beat each other to death (brings Mortal Combat to mind :p ), whereas in an RPG where you are meant to connect with your character and so having no customization makes that rather difficult. I know I felt similar when I played AC1 (haven't played the second two yet)
