When today's major consoles were first released, the Nintendo Wii clearly beat all the rest in sales. Some would even say that it had better launch titles than the PS3 or Xbox 360. However, if you look on video game review sites now, most of the best-reviewed Wii games are either Nintendo's usual staples (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and SSB Brawl, all of which were released about 1+ years ago) or have been taken from other consoles (Okami and Resident Evil 4). How do you feel about this? Has the Wii lost its magic or is it still going strong? Is it a gimmicky mess or the next level of interactive gaming?

Nintendo's always been like this. It'd be nice to see a more "hardcore" focus but I think the sales figures speak for themselves.

Would you prefer that "hardcore focus" to be totally original content, or something like another Resident Evil or No More Heroes?

Pretty generic topic, but I'll grace it with my opinion. (Yeah I'm cocky)
The nintendo wii is still selling, once it reaches 5o% marketshare developers will have to start paying attention. No more hereos, De Blob, Zack and Wiki, Boom blox. There's a few more but I'm being fast. These are great third party efforts. Lot's more are coming in 2009. Yes, the wii's third party support isn't as good as the ps360's but there are just enough great games to fill in the gap between amazing Nintendo releases.

I'll take what I can get. New games from Nintedo franchises, third-party games, new Nintendo franchises. Anything good

There's a VG cats comic that shows my opinion exactly... which... I can't find right now-
But unless Shigeru turns around and gives the hard-core crowd what they want then Nintendo are going to go down the pooper.

The DS is still good though.

I would say it was dead...but I remember saying Nintendo was dead when it only had the GameBoy and Pokemon franchises to keep it afloat. I'm done calling this one :(

Wow 50/50! At time of posting. I think the Wii could survive, but its going to have to work bloody hard. If it doesnt get some great games, preferably exclusive ones, and the backing of some serious game companies, itll go the same way of the gamecube

I already asked this of Eldritch Warlord, but would you be alright with those games being of Nintendo's usual breed? Does it just need another good Zelda or something totally new?

Apart from the gimmicky wii-mote which on paper was a nice idea I tihnk Nintendo have been losing steam for a while, they show a complete lack of innovation for games now.
Complete lack of innovation? What about Wifit? Super Mario Galaxy? All rght it's not an amazing amount of innovation but it's not a comple lack of innovation.
And some pessimistic people are saying 'On noes, the wii will die if nintendo doesn't make core games! The wii's neer going to stop selling, even if only a single game was released after I've posted this, I bet it would still sell like crazy. That's an exageration, but you get my point.
Sorry about wrong spelled right, but the keyboards gone crazy and I can't change it.

This again?

There are about 20-30 great games for the Wii - about five of which are 1st party and about 5 of which are ports.

And to be honest, De Blob alone is worth about ten of your latest generic post-apocalyptic FPS's.

Man after my own heart.

Based on the sales numbers, Nintendo has never been more 'on it' in it's entire history. Seemingly everything they think of sells, even the adapter to make your Wii motion sensing managed a positive reaction.
It also helps that it has plenty of distinct and innovative(ish) games, rather than the FPSRPG-athon that is the other two.

They dropped the ball a bit with the GBA and the Cube. The GBA wasn't as good as I expected and by the time the SP came out it was all too late. Whilst the cube is a great little console, but they shot themselves in the foot (with a bazooka) by making it cute and purple. Slap bang it the middle of the big black monolith era of electronics.
The cube also, slightly bizarrely, seemed overpriced next to it's competition. Yes it was cheaper, but it couldn't do dvds, music or online gaming (in europe at least). All of which were kind of taken for granted when it appeared. Which made £40 extra for a PS2 seem like a bargain.

The fact that not even kids like Wii Music means they're starting to make some mistakes, especially when this was one of their "big" releases.

Oblongdruid, Learn to spell and offer a slightly more complex breakdown of the wii audience then I might start to take notice of your opinion. I'm not a toddler and I don't have kids and, what's this, I have a wii and enjoy it's games. Even, gasp, wifit, which is a fun way to spend ten minutes every so often and is great when my parents come round. For my main gaming I play Mario Galaxy (still not finished) and Zack and Wiki. Which are pretty hardcore.
Oh, and wifit just overtook Halo 3 in sales, it's sold about 8.5 million copies, if your interested.

Although id probably buy them if they turned out to be good games, to make a step ahead they need to stop milking thier old francises and get some new players in there or some from other consoles

the wii was good for a while but it sorta lost it's appeal about 20 mins in when you realised how much of an idiot you looked when playing it...

Honestly, as long as Nintendo continues making games like Galaxy and No More Heroes, I'm going to stick with the system. I'm a long time Nintendo and Sony fan, and, honestly, I'm more concerned about Sony's direction than Nintendo's.

While I have to say that the Wii is pure innovation, the game selection is weak

I love nintendo hot titles, but considering that Wii fit was the best Wii selling game this year makes me a sad puppy

BUT! Nintendo has not "lost it", Nintendo is still running strong with high sales in Wii and DS lite and with the coming of the new DS, I'm going to say they'll be in the lead again very soon

I mean they have to be doing something right, considering Wii's sell out every week they come in to Gamestop here in LA
