I think Nintendo immensely handicapped itself by making the WiiU not really that powerful. Sure, they have some great IP from their own, but last gen showed that most mainstream games just don't appear on the weak console. If I want to play ME, DA, Cod, Borderlands and much more on a console last gen, I should not own a Wii. And I see the same thing happening with the next gen. Xbox and PS will be the main consoles, and nobody bothers with porting those games to the wiiU, because they have to downgrade the games so much to work on it.

I'm thinking and hoping that Nintendo might make a surprising comeback.

They got a major head start on this generation. And while they're doing slow, it is still a major head-start. And unlike the other companies, they already have some pretty major things announced. Bayonetta 2, X, Wind Waker HD. There's a lot of stuff people are going to want.

With Microsoft out of the competition they're left up against Sony. And I think they're going to do surprisingly well. Better than the Gamecube, at least. That is what I am hoping.

I might be biased because I already own a Wii U.

Nintendo was never really out. It's just that people will shit all over Nintendo's name because they have some grudge against it. Yes, the Wii U started out behind what people were expecting. But with how Microsoft just shot themselves on stage yesterday, the worst Nintendo could possibly be this generation is second best.

People seem to forget just how popular Nintendo's titles are. They still own Mario, Zelda, and a ton of other beloved franchises that are most likely going to be made.

...Well considering the WiiU..

I think the Xbox just killed itself on launch. It may climb back to be a contender, but right now no.

The PS4 seems to be doing a lot right, and will probably be the go to system this gen.

The WiiU needs people to do interesting things with it, else it will severely miss out. Mario and Zelda won't be able to carry it into the lead. It's also not really easy to compare it, because the experience on the WiiU is different.

I'd say that....no they aren't back, they are not "in"

Nintendo took a turn during the race...and it's now in a race all by itself.
I think Rayman Legends is actually the best use of the Wii U thus far in terms of gameplay, and since it's a third party game, it could be a sign that maybe it won't just be Nintendo that knows how to use it's unique controllers creatively.

Of course they are they still dominate the handheld market after all and I think the better question would be are Microsoft still in it they seem hell bent on destroying their PC and Console market share. Sony has the upper hand on the reveals so far and Nintendo needs some killer games both companies would be stupid not to take this opportunity to do some serious damage to Microsoft actually atm all they have to do is nothing just let Microsoft try and sell their piss in a bottle and flog it as fine wine then when people are fed up with their bullshit just step up and show them the alternatives which will look so much better.

Providing they also dont have an attack of insanity. Nintendo need games though really badly thats what is killing them the service seems fine and even better now.

If they get a 3D Mario or Mario Kart out this year they've pretty much got things locked. Looks like MS pulled a similar-level mistake that Sony did in 2006

I made another poll asking that very question. Kindly fix your grammar before you go there.

I think this makes 2006 look good in comparison. At least Sony showcased games there. Sure, it may have been Ridge Racer and "Giant Enemy Crab!" but they at least tried to showcase the thing as a videogame console. This was just... I don't even know what the fuck it was. It sure as hell wasn't a game console conference.
Sony and MS should definitely play CAREFULLY in the next few months. The prices of their products could really cause a giant shift in the current environment. If they let Nintendo get ANOTHER generation as the top dog then suddenly the entire developer environment 3rd parties have been trying to perpetuate will have to drastically change.

The Wii was anything but powerful, still running off of last gen graphics, and some even say, had worse graphics than the Gamecube.

And yet the Wii still sold the most home consoles.

I also think you may be getting ahead of yourself as well. It's far too early to tell if the XBone will see as much success in the industry, being a glorified TV and all. I get the feeling the only Devs that will be on the XBone are in-house with Microsoft, or are paid gobs of money to be on it. Even then, I foresee far more multiplatform titles over exclusives in its future if the reveal was anything to go by.

I honestly think Nintendo has the best chances over all but I also think they will let it slip though their fingers falling back on their comfort zones like they always do. Even here everyone says just wait for the new smash bros or mario game but that isn't what people really want they want variety. They want great uniques games from third party developers and original IP's that bring something new and exciting to the table not the same old zelda game over and over. People love the classics and will buy them but that isn't a selling point for the system that is a comfort, it is the standard, it is assumed those things will come and go.

It is the same reason EA's sports titles and COD on the new xbox isn't a big deal. We all knew those games were coming it would have been bigger news if they were not coming out.

If Nintendo thinks I am going to buy their system for the same old stuff they are kidding themselves. I will buy a Zelda game if I own the system but I won't buy the system just for that game.

nintendo was really losing the race, then microsoft looked at how a horse ran and somehow thought imitating something completely different in structure and purpose would somehow help them get ahead, and is now fumbling and falling and injuring themselves running like a complete idiot and going slower than ever before. sony is going at a casual saunter doing not much of anything impressive or different while nintendo does the same while trying to wow the crowd with magic tricks and cartwheels, getting some awkward chuckles and "awws" for at least having spirit, but keeping them from taking the lead. they have a competitive chance now to be sure, but at this point i think people have started leaving their seats and going home, because this race is kind of awkward and sad now...

Nintendo kind of transcends the competition. Microsoft isn't competing with Nintendo or Sony afterall, they're competing with Apple (if they are to be believed). Sony is competing with Microsoft and Apple as well. Nintendo however have always had successful handhelds (the DS prints money after all and the 3DS is starting to do that now too). The Wii won this generation in terms of sales and is still making money for Nintendo. The problem is just launching new hardware. I can't remember the last good hardware launch Nintendo had (was the Gamecube launch any good?) The Wii U hasn't built up as much momentum yet but it's going in the right direction at this point. The right direction for the Wii U that is: which is to make the most out of current technology and make the console as friendly to as many people as possible.

In terms of friendliness I'd say the Wii U already won. You don't have to install games on the system, you can buy, sell and, trade to your heart's content. Smaller games seem to be doing well digitally (based on the 3DS more than anything). The best thing Sony and Microsoft are doing is saying they're not in competition with Nintendo. Nintendo already won while Microsoft basically went out and committed suicide for all the world to see.

What the Wii U needs to do though is massively expand the Virtual Console and get more exclusive titles. Since they've teamed up with Sega it would be great to see some Sega revivals like Power Stone, Panzer Dragoon, Space Channel 5, etc. I mentioned this in another thread but taking the partnership to a new level by having a Mario & Sonic adventure game would probably be enough on it's own so long as they took a route of equality (ie: Mario and Sonic are equal as opposed to visiting one or the other, standing against a new threat so big that even Robotnic and Bowser have to help fight against it).

i'm not much of a Nintendo fan, it was boring when i was a kid and the PSone was my first 'real' console to me that got me into gaming...

but Nintendo is this 'thing' in the gaming world that will never die, so yea, they're 'in', always will be because they have the market on little kids and mom games... although with SMT's move to 3DS i may have to get one... for that game and that game only unless they release more under the Nin-band-o banner *snickers*

Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, with these they'll always have money... now if Sony would freakin' learn from the old man and just beat Final Fantasy 7 with the 'pretty' stick they would be making back all the money they supposedly 'lost' on this years games and all the stupid that is the PS4 coming out -.-

when i think 'Nintendo' i think that one guy from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, totally chill then all of a sudden smashes you in the face with a truck XD but will always... always... ALWAYS be there... to smash you in the face with that same-god-damned truck XD

cept .... Sony has no say in what happens to FF7, that belongs to Square, who could re-release it on the WiiU if they so desire. (they won't but it'd be funny)

Anyway, they never left, but they do need to get a few of their 'system movers' out, once that happens they'll be fine
