Well I'm a Fan to Space Sims, I guess it started in Wing Commander and Star Wars, and gone from there, The first thing that cough me was the story, WC was a story based game, and the interest in the story keep me going, then the X arrived, by that I mean the X universe, X2 was quite the revelation, but X3 was really mind blowing, the fact that it as a story added with a free universe were you can chose to fallow the story or not, and chose to be what ever you like. Yes i know it was really buggy at first, but it come up to be a great game, the point is, I been looking for new Space sims, and it apparently are fewer every year, the new seam like rip offs of X3

Sorry for being a dick about grammar and spelling, but some of these just had to be corrected.

They are too complicated for casual gamers, so most developers don't want to risk making them.

Most good space sims require more buttons than the average game pad has, and PC gaming seems more focused on pushing poly counts in lush environments. Even an extremely well rendered space sim will pail in comparison to the Far Cry's of the gaming world. Ultimately this just means there is no profit for a company to develop a space sim. They were popular back in the day because space is very easy to simulate and computing power of the time could easily handle the sparse visuals.

I played X3 a while back. I couldn't get into it. I havn't played many Space Sims, but I liked Freelancer, but that game was like Space Sim light, with a small learning curve. I'm not even a casual gamer, but X3 seemed overwhelming. Maybe if I find some time I'll hunt it out and play it a bit more.
