I quite frankly hate the idea of digital distribution. Give me a hard copy over a downloaded copy any day!

It will become less prominent (and kinda has), but there's still enough people that enjoy going to record stores for it to not flat-out die (I know some of these people).

As for the disks themselves (and DVD's), they're still an excellent way to give data to other people offline.

I like CDs. After all, who the hell wants to listen to the radio on a drive?
You can buy FM transmitters that you plug into your ipod which then plays music over the car's radio.

OT: I only think the music CD is dead. The CD is still doing quite well in other areas. Especially in the videogame industry. I personally rather go out and but a hard copy of a game rather than wait eight hours for my game to download and use up my bandwidth (my internet connection isn't the greatest).

So the CD isn't dead, yet.
Funny thing, I hate iPods and all other Apple things.
You can get ones that plug into the headphone jacks of regular portable music players too. Just saying, you CAN play your own music on a car radio without CD's.

Yes and so is the prospect of good sounding music. CD's have a pretty decent quality to them, they're not as good as records, but I'll purchase a cheap CD online rather than instantly have it in my hands. It's more fun to wait for the music and to physically have the CD in your hands. It's a blast to read the booklet that comes with the CD and look at the artwork. Purchasing something on iTunes feels so unremarkable, so impersonal. Yes, they have Genius recommendations and even have a digital book, but it's not the same. Plus the quality of an MP3 versus the CD file format is no contest. Call me a purist, but I'll go on buying CD's and records until they stop being available.

I still like my music and games on discs. Digital copies are nice, but it's always good to know you've got a physical copy in case anything goes wrong.

Nah, not yet anyway. I'd give it another 5 or 7 years, for the new generation of cars with MP3 plugins to become dominant.

But when they do go, what will drunken trashettes like Ke$ha listen to?!?!?!??! Music that isn't shit, hopefully. But that's another story.

It's not dead, but it's at least on life support. Downloading has definitely become the new format, but CD's are still made and sold. But I'm willing to bet we'll see CD's go sometime in the next decade.
